Does anything interesting happen after you kill Atheon? I died right before he was taken down in my game and couldn't be revived, so I didn't get to explore the area much outside of combat. I guess I kept on expecting something crazy to happen with all the glass floating in the air (it condenses into an artifact which you retrieve and exchange for Glimmer, or something...), but nothing happened. My fireteam returned to orbit after we got our rewards and they looked around a little bit. Seemed a little underwhelming, after the adrenaline rush of beating Starscream.
