Grimoire definition
I don't really think the etymology of the word has anything to do with Charlemagne, who might as well not exist in the sort-of-a-plot in the game.
I'm sure sometime after they gutted the story and replaced it with Door Simulator 2014 they put a list of words on a whiteboard like 'tome' and 'compendium' and 'codex' and 'grimoire' won.
