Scout Rifle: Before and After Today's Patch (Destiny)
by Beorn , <End of Failed Timeline>, Tuesday, October 14, 2014, 12:43 (3931 days ago)
Since the Scout Rifle is my armament of choice, I decided to do a quick A/B comparison of its performance changes with today's patch. Last night, and then again this morning, I loaded up The Garden's Spire mission on Level 28 (so that I wouldn't run into damage clamping). Same Warlock, same gear, Cryptic Dragon scout rifle, nothing upgraded between takes:
Before Patch:
- Normal hits: 224
- Headshot (Psion): 671
- Headshot (Phalanx/Legionary): 480
After Patch:
- Normal hits: 297 (1.326x)
- Headshot (Psion): 890 (1.326x)
- Headshot (Phalanx/Legionary): 636 (1.325x)
Not bad!
This gives me the warm fuzzies

Having practiced my Scout Rifle and Hand Cannon marksmanship for pretty much the whole game, I was disappointed at how often I could be beaten at range with an Auto Rifle. Super excited about this.

I also noticed today that my scout rifle seemed to be tearing through baddies considerably easier.

I already felt scouts were good in PvE, but now, sounds like even more powerful. I've got the A.1f19 blah blah. It has alot of impact and penetrates baddies. Wonder if there is a loss of damage as it passes through them?

From what I've been able to check (I only got in from work 20 minutes ago), Scout Rifle Impact has definitely been increased, though by how much I can't say across the board.
Here's what I got so far:
# All 47 Impact Scout Rifles (that I've tested) are now Impact 48
# Reload Speed has been increased by 1 on all Scout Rifles tested
# Rate of Fire remains the same, so we're definitely getting an increase in DpS and not just a rearrangement.
Interestingly, it seems that not all ARs have been nerfed. Her Right Hand has gained +1 Range, +1 Impact and +1 Stability.
The Surrender A has also seen +1 Impact and +1 Stability, though no improvement to Range.
What does this mean for you: Not much, yet. I need more data. I'll let you know as I find out more. I'll have actual Damage Values as soon as I've played a couple gfames in The Crucible.
What does this mean for me: I have to start my spreadsheet over again for Scout Rifles and ARs. Sigh.
EDIT: Some (though not all) Shotguns also seem to have had their Reload Speed and Impact buffed. Rate of Fire remains the same. Annoyingly I haven't got any of the right Barrel Upgrades available atm to compare Range.

+1

You're still one cool dude, guy.
I can't find a pattern. Aaaargh.

Atheon's Epilogue also does the exact same amount of damage as it did before the fix, and feels identical.

I would imagine the biggest difference is in Stability, but annoyingly I haven't got any of my old ARs with the right Sight Upgrades to check.
Will need to check if my Shingen-E is still a ridiculous laser beam of death, as soon as PSN is back up.

Can confirm increased damage with aforementioned Scout Rifles. 41 Damage up from 39.
Surrender A and Her Right Hand have not actually increased in damage, despite Impact increase.
Shingen-E feels the same as always. Steady as a rock.

I kind of figure this is how the patch is going to play out. I think the changes Bungie is making are going to be a lot more subtle than most people realize.

I think that Crit nerf is going to make the biggest difference. Before, AR had significantly better DpS no matter what. Now if both AR and Scout are getting headshots, the gap is closed somewhat, especially at range, which is where SRs should excel. At close range you're still better off with an AR, but at least a SR player has a chance now.

I have seen and enjoyed these new changes. My Scout Rifle is almost like my buddy now.

Ran both my Shadow Price and Proxima last night to see which I liked better post-patch. AR nerk wasn't bad at all and now I can say for sure fits my playstyle (especially having Ice Breaker) much better than the SR.
SRs are great tho - glad that folks who use them get this buff. :)
