Another "The Traveler is Evil" observation (Destiny)
Haven't seen this mentioned, so think about this:
We are told the traveler made a last stand on Earth to save humanity, but all the damage to the sphere is on the bottom. If the Traveler was protecting us, wouldn't the bulk of the damage be on the upper part? It looks like WE were shooting UP at it, rather than our enemies raining DOWN on us.
Maybe I'm looking at this through rose-colored Halo glasses (covenant bombarding us from orbit). But if the Cabal just blows up moons for fun, and everyone has ships but the Vex (that I've noticed), I imagine that they would have dealt quite a bit of damage from orbit.
Another loophole could be that the Fallen and the Hive jumped straight into the lower atmosphere, but it still bothers me that there is no upper damage on the Traveler.

Another "The Traveler is Evil" observation
Not sure the Traveler actually has a "bottom." There is no up/down/left/right in space. ;) Guessing it's more likely that was the best way to orientate itself above Earth, for whatever reason.
But, yeah, would be nice to see that explained. Looks to me that the City is stripping it for parts, with all the stuff flying around underneath it. How do we know that isn't what's happening?

Could it be damage from the Traveler creating Ghosts?

Wondered about that, too.
Could be presenting the undamaged side to space while its Guardians (heh) defend the damaged section.

That's my take
