Tips for the PS4 VoG Hard Moders (Destiny)

I'd still love to try to get team DBO through the Vault on Hard this weekend. Initial forays into the Vault on Hard mode were less than successful, but here's what I've experienced so far. I have not gotten to Atheon on Hard, so who knows what we will face:

1. Opening the plates is not that difficult, and we should have no problems.

2. Hand canons rule on hard. For the templar battle, they are way better at clearing the goblins, fanatics, and harpies than Autorifles. This was BEFORE the auto rifle nerf, so it should be even better now. If you have a hand canon, get it to attack power 300 before saturday. The Devil you Know works great in my experience, and others say the Hawkmoon is even better. Rockets seems to be the better choice when defending the middle. You will have no shortage between ammo synth and drops from enemies.

3. Defending the conflux

Central - 2 left, 3 middle, one right seemed to work best. One person from the middle can float between middle and right as needed. One person on the left snipes the hobgoblins, while the other clears other spawns. The person on the right camps the cave and kills the spawns as they come out, and requests help from the middle floater as needed.

Sides - 3 on each side, this is easy

All three - Same strategy as central.

4. Oracles / Templar - Spread out as usual. One person with a sniper should be focused exclusively on taking out the Hobgoblin Snipers. Let the templar teleport, as level 30 minotaurs are not fun.

5. Gatekeeper - As usual for the first gate. On the second gate, one person can't really handle the minotaur spawn as in normal mode, so someone watching the sync plate should do double duty with a long range weapon to help out.

That's as far as I've gotten. Let's go team DBO! This weekend. Level 29+ only.

Hand Cannons

I wondered this plan of attack myself (having long since chosen HCs as my primary Guardian slayer in the Crucible), but worried about reload times. For hard, I want to go in with full Raid gear so I'm Light 30 (and therefore don't get any damage decreases against 30 enemies), which means I would have to put my trusty gloves that boost my HC reload speed aside.

Of course, I'm also a Hunter and tend to roll with Gunslinger and Chain of Woe, so one would figure that I can get by with pretty fast reloads already. I don't know, I only have one non-Exotic HC (Legendary) and it's not yet fully upgraded. I have both Exotic HCs (which are both in their last three upgrades), but their clip is way too small (along with some questionable stats/mods for Raid) for me to feel comfortable rolling in the Raid with when there's a better Exotic I could be using in Special/Heavy.

What about for going up against Oracles? How do the non-Raid-HCs fair against them? Would you suggest just switching back to a different primary with extra damage to Oracles if you're normally on teleport duty (as I tend to be)?

Only if you don't coordinate. If two people shoot the same oracle it's fine. Otherwise, yeah. Use something with oracle disruptor.

The Lord High Fixer hand cannon, which you can buy from the Crucible Quartermaster, has good reload speed that can be boosted to great reload speed with the perk. Stack that with chain of woe and I think you would have zero complaints about reload speed.

Both Gunslinger's Trace and Chain of Woe are amazing with Hand canons, since hand canons kill quickly with precision shots. You can easily and quickly stack both and keep them active for long periods as you mow down the Vex. FYI, these abilities DO NOT activate when you kill harpies, so you won't get them if you stay behind during the Atheon fight.

I was using blade dancer for a while in the Vault, but honestly Gunslinger is better. You can use your super to take out the Hobgoblin Snipers. The blade dancer's arc grenade is really nice, but between the synergy mentioned above and the usefulness of golden gun, I think that's the way to go as a hunter.

I just hit 29 tonight, I hope I'm around when you take it on. If there's a free space that is!

Hmm. Apparently the Gjallarhorn's cluster bombs each get boosted by Time's Vengeance, which lets you do insane damage. I just saw a video of a group, all of whom had the rocket launcher, taking Atheon from full health to death in 17 seconds on hard.

Even a rare or legendary with the cluster bombs would work.

So Hezen Vengence? Excellent.

Or, just have a Titan punch him.

I hope that's not, yet, another bug that they missed

so they don't fix something that isn't working as they intended.
