Was the raid supposed to be bigger? (Destiny)

So you get through the gate, and the first section on the inside of the Vault of Glass is the "Trials of Kabr". Except there's nothing. You get a chest and move on to the Templar's Well.
However, if you explore the secret path, you find it's pretty intricate with strange geometry and progression paths. To get there, just jump off the ledge by the chest, and double jump onto an entrance to a hallway below. There's lots of jumping, and small platforms and ledges. It's also empty. I could imagine it being really fun fighting your way through with Vex in the area.
Why would there be this huge and intricately modeled area hidden away, only to be empty? Were the Trails of Kabr supposed to be actual trials?

DLC maybe, or activates another chest?

Maybe in the DLC they will add-in functionality to this area? DLC will give old places new makeup, so why not the same for the Raid? However, there's already 4 distinct points where you raid the bosses for loot so maybe they will just add another chest.
Or maybe this route is for activating another chest further in the VoG (maybe this is what makes the chest by the Templar actually pay out)? Anyone try going this route with their entire team? Without dying? Maybe you're not supposed to die at the entrance to activate a chest in this area?

There seems to finally be some confirmation (from multiple YouTube videos) that the key to unlocking the "fifth" chest in the Vault of Glass is by not allowing a single vex sacrifice to the confluxes in the Templar area.

Heh, I heard it was stopping the Templar from teleportin

I'll have to remind my team mates of this no-sacrifice thing tonight or tomorrow when we play and see for ourselves

I got the fifth chest last night. The templar cannot teleport. We lost a few Vex to the Conflux, so that's not it. Not sure if anybody can die or not, but nobody did.

There are multiple videos showing that the fifth chest can show up even if you allow the Templar to teleport. Which is why the no vex sacrifices became the leading theory. It is also still very possible that it is just random whether it shows up or not.

here's a thought

what if it is random, just like the chests in patrol?
The reason i thought of this is b/c all the regular raid chests respawn after a set amount of time. They will only give you loot once, but they will respawn and can be reopened if you let enough time pass.
what if there is a time trigger on the chest, and people are either getting there too early or too late? Would be a great experiment if you had the time to kill. Just wait right outside the hidden area and check it every 5-10 mins.

Well, we got it with sacrifices happening, so that's not it. Maybe it's nobody dying during either fight?

Yeah, I think I'm more inclined to think it might just be random spawn.

I would imagine so. Looks like it was cut for whatever reason and another path hewn through the rock instead. But like other areas of the game that were modeled out but not finished, they decided to just leave it there.

They talked about making some changes to the VoG after having those MMO groups come test it. Changes to make the normal mode more completable by mere mortals. Perhaps the Trials section was deemed too difficult?

Here I thought the whole point was for the Vault of Glass to be really really challenging.

Challenging yes, but it still has to be feasible enough that a decent number of people can beat it. No developer wants to create content that no one will ever get to experience.
Inb4 "Then why isnt there matchmaking".

Challenging and fun. Make it too hard and it'd be like asking someone to complete Halo 2 on Legendary with no deaths. Who would want to even attempt it at that point? ;)

That's why I said really really challenging, instead of really really hard :-p

My only thought is it feels unlikely they'd want a group of six fighting on tiny jumping platforms. Could go either way, Kabr's story is tied into the Templar portion for the most part, could just be a reference to that.
