So to talk loosely about the final encounter for the raid, in the encounter, our goal was to have an encounter where each player in your raid needed to be able to do each job from the entire raid. So, to allow players to have some freedom over choosing or selecting who's going to do what job, while that's strategically interesting, and it's led to a bunch of really cool strategies, it actually doesn't align with the goal for the encounter. So that is an example of a case where we would make a change.

I don't get this at all. If he wanted that to happen, why was it based on proximity to Atheon and not pure randomness as to who was sent? What did you THINK was going to happen when people figured it out?

I do think it would have been cool if it was random on hard mode though!

Sounds like they might just do that :)

Agreed about random on Hard mode

It'd certainly add some flavor to the difficulty. However, at this point doing it to Normal would throw a curve ball to a chunk of players. I've helped quite a few teams of randoms out who have played the entire Raid before, but always left the Templar's Relic and Atheon teleportation jobs to others and thus don't have a clue what's up with such duties, especially on how to use the Relic (cleanse, ram, melee, super).

Oh well, they'll live and learn if the change is made across the board.

Next time you do it try it out. I've made sure to try as many of the jobs as possible. It's a lot fun fun trying new things.

Splitting up the jobs and playing to each's strengths is the epitome of teamwork. Why would you want to take that away?

You don't make a punter play defense.

Also, if you never tried the other roles, how would you know whether you are better at it or not than another?

Plus I'm sure there's plenty of examples of someone wanting to try a new role, but either not speaking up or not listened to in the interest of getting whatever task done as quickly as possible.

In my last run at the Templar for example, we had one person focusing on the Relic. Another spoke up saying "hey I can see orbs freaking everywhere" so he grabbed it and was able to spam his super 5 times in a row. Templar: pwned.

Pulling those blinders off can save the day - like when a punter saves a kick return from going back to a touchdown. ;)

I totally agree that the implementation is so far from Luke's stated intention that it doesn't make any sense.

But the intention itself does make sense: that you have the be flexible, adaptable on the fly, have mastered all that has come before. Or at least, everyone having a minimum level of competence at everything. Able to work well with whatever sub-fireteam you're thrust into the future or past with. etc.

I was referring to the randoms. I've performed every role

I just realized I posted the above reply in the wrong thread earlier. But yeah, I've performed every role already, it's most of the randoms I encounter whom are out of the loop. It becomes a metagame of patience in teaching them (especially when you have other random vets wanting to do some other strategy that worked for their primary team) and by the time you hit Atheon it can just become a "oh I'll just handle the Relic! NO, STOP TELEPORTING, STAY UP FRONT, ARGGHHHH! Why do I do this to myself!?"

Oh right, because the VoG is still pretty fun, even when it and your team are breaking your balls.

That right there is like a major social anxiety. So much so that I'm posting in the hope of fishing out I'm not one of those people. Haha.

Pfff, this from the guy who literally carried our Wednesday raid and had twice as many kills as the next person.
