so how much does it cost to print something that large? I know the printers are expensive, but how much is the resin (or whatever the material is called)?

We use PLA plastic here, which is $30-$40 per spool. That's one of the cheaper materials. I don't know how many spools he used, and he might have been using something else.

The material itself is usually very cheap. The cost from printing companies is usually due to the time taken to print your stuff.
