Mariachi’s list of ways to make Destiny EVEN better (Destiny)

by Mariachi @, Kentucky, Friday, October 31, 2014, 07:07 (3900 days ago)

Let me start by saying that I think Destiny is already pretty great, so this is not a list of things to fix Destiny. Nor is this a list of gripes or complaints, though some of this could be perceived that way, it is not my intention. This is just a list of my ideas for things that I think would make Destiny more fun for me personally. And since I rarely play Crucible, this is almost entirely PvE focused.

Armor

  • Give us more ability to customize armor uniquely without sacrificing light level. Some of the Exotics are less than attractive to me aesthetically. I use them anyway because it is the only means I have to level my Guardian. This leaves me with a guardian that is a high level, but one that doesn’t “fit” me. I don’t relate to it as much. It’s just not me. Instead, let me find the armor and look that I want. Let me use gear that I think looks cool, but give me a way to upgrade it to a high level piece of armor. For instance, instead of getting a chestplate as a drop from the raid, give me a consumable that is a “Raid Chestplate Enhancement”. It could be a one time upgrade material that I can apply to the armor of my choosing to make it capable of being a higher light level. And just so things are fair, upgrading it could completely change its attributes and reset it back to an un-upgraded state.

  • The Shaders are cool, but could be more useful. Currently, a single shader can be equipped that applies to all your armor. Let us do it piece by piece and apply a different shader to each individual piece of armor. This way we can have our Guardians look as unique as we want.

Weapons

  • I think getting weapons from engrams and as mission rewards is fine. I am happy for my friends who get awesome weapons that way, but waiting around for RNG to drop me what is want is frustrating. Primarily because there is nothing I can do but wait. It would certainly make the wait more bearable, if there was some other means I could work toward to get the gear I want. I propose adding a Black market Vendor to the tower, like Xur, but make EVERY exotic and Legendary gun available through him at all times. The catch is that you set the price really high. Ludicrously high. For instance, you can purchase Thorn from him for 300 strange coins. Its a price that most people wouldn’t choose to pay, but it would give people an avenue to get what they want that is not based on chance. And who knows, while they are working towards that crazy high price, they might get lucky and get the weapon as a drop or reward.

Engrams and Rewards

  • I play as a hunter and love it. It will probably be a long time before I decide to spend time leveling up a titan or warlock. So when my first Legendary Engram gave me a helmet for a warlock, I was pretty upset. All engram drops and rewards should provide equipment only to the class that earned it. Otherwise, you just set people up for disappointment and resentment.

Public Events

  • Easily one of the best parts of Destiny IMHO. There is something really really awesome about running around the world and stumbling onto a public event. Having Guardians from around the map come together to tackle a single activity is just plain fun. This is the best executed part of Destiny when it comes to making the world feel alive to me. It breaks the monotony of the activity and adds a freshness to whatever activity I am on at the time. So why not take it even further? I enjoy the devil walker event on Earth, but its gotten pretty easy. Lets beef it up. Imagine the collective freak out of all the guardians standing around waiting for that event if randomly two walkers dropped instead of one. Or a high level hydra dropped with a flood of Vex.

  • What if events of this type spilled over to other parts of the game. Imagine if you were deep in a strike fighting Phogoth and suddenly you had to defend a Warsat on the lower platform where the Gold chest is. Or you are making your way through Gorgon's Labyrinth and you get an event pop up to take out a high level Gorgon. You could completely ignore these events and continue on with your strike or with the raid, but those brave guardians who take on these "Private Events" could be rewarded with temporary modifiers to help finish the mission they are on. Defeating the high level Gorgon could give your Raid party a damage boost against Atheon or against Oracles.

Bounties

  • Some of the bounties have become too easy as a high level guardian. Got the bounty for melee kills without dying? Just patrol the Cosmosdrome and get it without even breaking a sweat. I propose that each bounty be given different tiers of completion. When you turn in this bounty, you get the reward for the highest tier that you have completed. This way a single bounty can provide a challenge for players of varying levels. With the melee kill bounty, it could look something like this:
    • Tier 1: Melee kill 50 enemies without dying - 2500 Exp
    • Tier 2: Melee kill 100 enemies level 20 or higher without dying - 7500 Exp
    • Tier 3: Melee kill 150 enemies level 26 or higher without dying - 15000 Exp

  • Also, it would be nice to see some new bounties. How about a bounty for completing a strike solo without taking any damage, or a bounty for completing a high level story mission using only melees and grenades. We have bounties already for the fusion rifle, so how about a specific bounty for shotguns or rockets?

Special Events

  • I like the idea behind the Queen’s Wrath and Iron Banner special events.I am sure Bungie has more of these types of events planned, but here a few suggestions of mine for some special events I think would be cool.
    • The Path of the Nine: An event giving us backstory on the Nine. All of the Nine either arriving at the tower themselves or being represented by Xur. Give each one a unique multistage Bounty similar to the exotic bounties, but more but more difficult and grueling.
    • Pathways into Darkness: A Special Nightfall Strike Event. Fireteam vs fireteam. One team plays as Fallen, Hive, Vex, or Cabal and try to take out the other team. Same rules apply as during a regular nightfall. Once your team dies, you lose.
    • Tower Duels: One on One Boss fights where the Boss is a Tower personality. How cool would it be to fight Lord Shaxx, Cayde-6, Ikora Ray, Zavala, Banshee-44, or any of the faction representatives.

Sparrow Racing

  • And finally, Sparrow Racing needs to happen asap. How is this not already a thing?

You know the final boss has to be the Cryptarch. For a weapon he could throw all the purple and yellow engrams he has been hording. Boy I would sure love to knock him down a peg...

I don't think it's even possible to accumulate 100 coins. That is inSANE, and requires 120/7 hardcore HIGH LEVEL Strikes. No way.

[*]I play as a hunter and love it. It will probably be a long time before I decide to spend time leveling up a titan or warlock. So when my first Legendary Engram gave me a helmet for a warlock, I was pretty upset. All engram drops and rewards should provide equipment only to the class that earned it. This part I agree with. Since October 1st, I only got one Legendary Engram, and it wasn't even my class. You could imagine how pissed I was. At least I'll have it for that class for later.

[*]Imagine the collective freak out of all the guardians standing around waiting for that event if randomly two walkers dropped instead of one. Or a high level hydra dropped with a flood of Vex.

Interesting--call it an Elite Public Event with harder stuff and bigger rewards. And shards and energy for EVERYONE!

[*]What if events of this type spilled over to other parts of the game. Imagine if you were deep in a strike fighting Phogoth and suddenly you had to defend a Warsat on the lower platform where the Gold chest is.

Yeah, 'cause we most certainly have time, ammo, weapons, armor, damage resistance and cover to do that and a boss all at once.

[*]Some of the bounties have become too easy as a high level guardian. Got the bounty for melee kills without dying? Just patrol the Cosmosdrome and get it without even breaking a sweat. I propose that each bounty be given different tiers of completion. When you turn in this bounty, you get the reward for the highest tier that you have completed. • Tier 2: Melee kill 100 enemies level 20 or higher without dying - 7500 Exp
  • Tier 3: Melee kill 150 enemies level 26 or higher without dying - 15000 Exp

Unfortunately, that would be far too much for one(or several players). It takes quite a while to melee 30. But doing one-hundred and fifty, Level 26(that's 5-6 melees PER character, assuming they're minors)--AND without dying, even though one can kill you in about 2 melees?!? You'd have to get a good 20-30 Coins or Shards for something as tedious as that. Reminds me of my 'kill 77,777 enemies on Reach to get 77,777 credits' challenge--not worth it.

[*]Also, it would be nice to see some new bounties. How about a bounty for completing a strike solo without taking any damage, or a bounty for completing a high level story mission using only melees and grenades.

I will seriously pay for 12 ounces of whatever it is you're smoking or being prescribed.

Currently sitting on 122, and that's after buying "Patience and Time" this weekend, and two Armementiums in weeks prior. They add up quickly if you have 3 high-level characters.

Armor

  • Give us more ability to customize armor uniquely without sacrificing light level.
  • The Shaders are cool, but could be more useful.

An upgrade consumable like the Sparrow upgrade would be nice.

In addition: let us modify the tech trees. Now investment systems depend on us not getting everything we want. They also present us things that let us get closer to what we want. They provide a challenge whose resolution is to spend more time playing.

In that light I suggest:

  • you need to dismantle existing guns to get the tech tree parts
  • the slots you make must be upgraded to enable
  • you can change the damage colour done at any time but at the expense of having to upgrade to get the damage

When I talk of slots or tech tree parts I mean the circles that need to be filled up to enable an ability or increase damage.

So a slot is a circle and upgrading is filling the circle.

Armor and weapons would have editable tech trees. You either start with an item with a big enough tech tree or you get a tech tree consumable from something more awesome than a raid. Or Xur sells them for 30 strange coins ;-)

Weapons

  • if there was some other means I could work toward to get the gear I want

Modify the tech tree.

Engrams and Rewards

  • All engram drops and rewards should provide equipment only to the class that earned it.

Bungie wants to encourage you to play all roles so probably wont happen.

Public Events

  • Imagine the collective freak out of all the guardians standing around waiting for that event if randomly two walkers dropped instead of one. Or a high level hydra dropped with a flood of Vex.

  • What if events of this type spilled over to other parts of the game. Defeating the high level Gorgon could give your Raid party a damage boost against Atheon or against Oracles.

It's a one time freakout and knowing what you'll find and where helps you plan your daily grind.

We can get public events kick off in the public parts of Strikes.

PEs where you have to kill bullet-sponge-who-runs-away-very-fast have to be killed with fire. If I reload I can't keep up but if I keep up I can't shoot him. If I'm levelling up a weapon and don't have full ammo on everything then I don't even attempt them.

OK, sometimes I do attempt them when low on ammo or with a down level weapon but I usually regret it.

I bet you money that parts of worlds with run-away PEs are less populated than others.

Bounties

  • Some of the bounties have become too easy as a high level guardian. Got the bounty for melee kills without dying? Just patrol the Cosmosdrome and get it without even breaking a sweat. Sounds like more grind. Needs much bigger payoffs and more weapon upgrade effect. I don't know if I want to spend more time bountying. My plan was to do bounties then do the things that I enjoy. I don't know if I'd have the will to live after meleeing 150 enemies per day.

Nah. My fireteam + like three random Guardians absolutely flattened one of those guys in like 10 seconds the other day with a bunch of coordinated fire. I like them because you really do need help instead of most of the other event types which can be soloed. Seriously, who can't solo a Spider Tank or Warsat these days?

(Well... except for the one Warsat on the moon I ran into the other day. I came across a lone Guardian managing the transmat who was under fire from a ton of high level Hive and Fallen. We got it done but it almost felt like the later stage of an ODST Firefight with us having to pick off the weak enemies while ducking around cover (the Warsat!) in order to escape the several Hallowed Knights and at least four wizards hounding us. It was an awesome change from the usually easy Warsat uploads and we even both got legitimately overwhelmed and died at the end! )

If you're playing a mission with Juggler active, you're pretty much doing that anyway, in order to potluck all of your ammos together. I certainly play differently with it on. I use creative methods as such--including jacking a Pike.

But I'LL tell you something good I just thought about--for 10 Coins each, you'll be provided with a consumable that extracts materials from your planet with each enemy killed for 10 minutes. I'd pay actual money to have that put in an update. Xur would be A LOT more popular, you'd end up with a bunch of materials you need to upgrade, and there's finally something you can salvage!!
