If anybody has any insight this would be great.
100% of the time so far making it to Atheon without a death, he fails to teleport anybody. It occurred like clockwork 4 times in a row. We wiped just to see what would happen, and sure enough the fight behaved normally after that.
It looks like it has something to do with not restarting. Fix your shit Bungie.

This Atheon bug is reproducible
Ran the raid tonight and we kept getting random teleports... Sometimes one sent, sometimes two, sometimes none. Got some sweet shards/energy again. No weapons, no gear.

Well, Bungie said they wanted it random! :p

What about gettibg teleported to venus side and all 3 there are detained. Yep...

Both sides are Venus side. It's incredibly annoying to hear people say "Mars side" or "Venus side". There is no Mars side. It's the Future Venus. It's also known as "Left"...

Have you tried turning it off and on again? (Quitting to Orbit and then restarting the Raid from the last checkpoint)

This Atheon bug is reproducible
Agreed. "Past" (right side) and "Future" (left side) are the correct terms. I would rather hear "brown" and "green" call-outs than "Mars" and "Venus"..

This Atheon bug is reproducible
We have tried going back to orbit and switching party leader before going back in and restarting the raid. The problem with your suggestion of going to orbit and restarting at the checkpoint is that we're specifically going for the Flawless Raider trophy.

It's incredibly annoying hearing people correct it for me, because not everyone knows which side is past or future, but on the other hand, one side does look like Venus and one looks like Mars so I'll keep it like that. It makes it a whole lot easier when there is so many others things you need to consider that may go wrong.

I think at this point more people know that neither side is Mars, so you're confusing or annoying the people who know. Past and future make more sense to me given that the future is overgrown, and I see the sync plates as arranged chronologically.

Another reason "past" and "future" are superior--I think of the past as the left side.

Ah, didn't know it'd break the achievement. Sorry.

I don't like mars/venus or past/future callouts. I always say left/right. Its a hell of a lot easier for the people opening the portals to be told exactly which one. I have been in too many games where someone got confused and opened the wrong one b/c of the past/future callout.
Also, to me (as an Ecologist) left would be the past, as it is devoid of life. Right is the future, as it has become overgrown through primary and secondary plant succession.

i don't think it does
just like how you can get the flawless strike achievement by joining a strike seconds before the boss is killed, you can do the same in the VOG. I think Cody et al are trying to do it the right way and recording it.

Its a feature
Bugnie didn't intend for you to make it with no deaths. It was obviously too easy for you, so they took your time's vengeance away :)

I've heard from multiple sources that you cannot get the achievement in VoG if even a single person goes to orbit and comes back.

This settles it. Best reasoning possible :D

One problem with that explanation is that the Minotaur and Goblins in the "green" timestream are clearly a more ancient form of the Vex.
The way I understand it, this area was once (in the past) a lush green area that (in the future) has been abandoned/forgotten/fallen into a state of desertion once we have destroyed Atheon and his Vex are no longer giving life to the place.

You don't even need to call out
I don't like mars/venus or past/future callouts.
People that are still in the present can see the away team on the edge of their motion tracker.
When looking at Atheon:
Back left for the left
Front right for the Right.
Just take the half second to actually look there and figure it out on your own instead of clogging the airways.

I completely agree with this, which is why past and future always worked for me.
Maybe it's because I'm left-handed, but I confess to always having to do a bit of gut check when giving or getting left/right directions. The past/future distinction somehow seems require fewer synapse traversals for me, without losing the spatial info when I think of it as a timeline.

This Atheon bug is reproducible
As an Architect Left or Right just depends on how you are facing them. I much prefer the Future/Past or Red/Green set ups.
As a person with common sense, an area with only one entrance uses the entrance as a reference point for the room. You walk in, you're facing the back of the room. The portal to your left is now named Left. The portal to your right is named Right.
This is supported by the fact that the Templar Confluxes are labeled "Left Conflux" and "Right Conflux".
No idea how such a simple notion just baffles people's minds.
But as has been stated already, you don't even need the callouts beyond first capturing the points; when people get teleported, your radar tells you exactly which side they are on, though you should already have someone on either point anyway...
The only reason this greatly annoys me is that people call out a point, and it confuses the group when three people simultaneously shout "We're on Venus/Past/Right/Minotaur/Green!"
Then "Well, right should be "Future" Because trees have grown!" "No, it should be "Past", because the trees have died!" "No, the Descendants tell you which side is the future!"
NO.
Left, and Right. Simple.

This Atheon bug is reproducible
Left and Right can be relative to your current position. If you are starting at the entrance then the left is the Red portal and right is the Green portal. If you go past the portals and start looking back towards the start then left now becomes the Green portal and right becomes the Red portal.
By simply removing the naming convention of left/right and replacing with red/green it removes the confusion of someone calling out a specific direction (which might not be the same according to your current position/direction)

I prefer the callout
It's faster getting the information than me trying to look, especially when I'm in the middle of murderin' fools. Will also cause the team to focus, as everyone listens and executes.

Left. Right. No confusion at all.

No. Once you've established the initial points, using the entrance as the reference, no matter where you stand in the room, no matter what direction you face, NO MATTER WHAT, the point on the Left when you first entered is "Left Side". It doesn't magically change what it is simply because you're looking at it from another angle. That's why I said the point is now named "Left". That is its name. The name doesn't change.
It also helps simplify what actions you take when exiting the portal, too.
If you're on Left side, you will turn left to get to the center when you exit. If you're on Right side, you will turn right to get to the center. Super simple stuff.

I've only done the raid once... Does the game ever actually assign past or future to the two times? Plant growth doesn't tell us much of anything. It could be the plants had time to grow... or time to all die!

This Atheon bug is reproducible
As alluded to elsewhere in this thread, the clearest clue that the game provides is that the enemies in the two portals are labeled "precursor" (in the lush, green past) and "descendant" (in the brown, desolate future)

Read my post right above yours. I've admitted I'm wrong. I'm ignorant, and worse, I've spread my ignorance. No one in the game ever pointed out that I was wrong, however, and in the last game I was usually the person who identified past or future.

lol - I love your certainty. I had a hell of a time figuring out 'left' and 'right' when we first played - I was facing the back wall, so my 'left' was someone else's 'right'. You think it's obvious that it should be in the context of 'facing Atheon' - but there's really no good reason for that. I thought it was obvious that it should be in the context of 'most of the play area'.

Now you know. Left and right facing as you enter. :-p
I also just learned that your radar will tell you which side the went to. That works whatever way you are facing :-)

Hey, Bungie agrees with this logic in the Conflux room. No reason it can't work anywhere else.
It only takes one time to learn, it serves multiple purposes, and it stops chatter clogging up and drowning out the airwaves. All of the Hard Raid Randoms that I've run with (pretty much every week it's a new set of Randoms) have called them left and right. It seems to be the official designation with the folks who run it regularly.

Thunderdevil is what you want. It's pretty.

just to play devil's advocate here: There is the entrance that you enter from, and the 2 vex gates, so that's 3 entrances technically. Also, the 'monster closets' that you can't enter, but the vex can, could be considered entrances as well.
But i get what you are saying, and agree with the left/right philosophy.

What it ultimately comes down to is that your fireteam has clear designations that work for your team.
I completely understand the left/right designations, but when people yell out directions in general those directions are usually relative to their orientation which doesn't work for everyone.
Now if only Bungie would have named them Left Minotaurs/Goblins and Right Minotaurs/Goblins

I wasn't disagreeing at all that it's a good idea to have conventions, and to settle on one that makes sense to everyone playing.
I was laughing at the beginning of your sentence. I'm a person with common sense, too - and to me, the focal point of the room makes more sense as the reference point than the entrance. I'm not even saying I'm RIGHT - I'm saying your assumption that there's a single right answer here is pretty laughable. :)
