The dregs can one shot melee, the sniper vandals get burn damage, all three different flavors of enemy element shields come into play, and the archon priest is the least cheese friendly strike. Probably not expiated by the fact my only arc weapon is the raid shotty, and I only roll warlocks.

Time to put this rubber ball in my mouth, I guess.

I found it one of the easier ones. Take Patience and time and dominate from a distance. You can use the entrance to the archon's arena as cover, and play hide and seek and kill him.

It seems the burn mods are really a buff. I think Bungie needs to either make burn only affect the enemies, or a new mod is needed which converts all your damage to kinetic. It's no co-incidence the only nightfall I haven;t soloed was the one with no burn mods.

Disagree.

It's an interesting dynamic. You can deal a lot of damage of one type but you are just as fragile to that type.

Let's us a Minotaur as an example. You have two fully upgraded snipers (300), one Void, one Arc.

Arc burn is on.

In my experience, using the Void sniper is still more efficient at taking down the shield. The burn provides a nice buff, yes, but it just reduces the amount of rounds I would have used on that void shield.

Obviously, one the shield is off burn type goes back to dominating, or if you run into an enemy that has that same type shield as you do burn type.

IDK, maybe it's just me.

On the phogoth nightfall I still needed to use icebreaker on wizards even though I had a fully upgraded arc shotty.

A friend of ours was a big fan of the psycho, Krieg, in Borderlands 2. He had one build completely around the second wind suicide-like attack. We used "pineapple" for his safe word whenever he couldn't revive himself with a kill, so we knew to get him back up.

Good times.

Had a helluva time with RNG and arc weapons for some reason. They just will not drop. Would have purchased with marks but I was busy spending those on a rare sparrow and I'm just a bit short of 150 at the moment.

Took me 27 minutes. I was using a brand new, never used Patience & Time, and I was still one-shotting Captains, so I imagine an upgraded Arc sniper really amps up the damage output (and usefulness). Can't take that arc burn lightly. The only hindrance was a dreg that meleed me while I was looking down the sights of my pulse rifle, but come on, I'm a Sunsinger; he regretted that immediately...

Made a clip. While I'm aware that not everyone packs an arc primary, the strategies are sound, it only speeds up the process (Confluence is also a good weapon, as the Shanks are the only real threat throughout). Arc Fusion Rifles are also really great (what I usually use on Nightfalls), since the only things that can kill you tend to have to get pretty close. If I can recommend anything, it's to buy Special Ammo synthesis, because you do burn through that special ammo pretty quick...

If you don't keep stunning him like the guy in the video, he'll quickly run to the right and stay there, making it extremely difficult and slow to kill him. Under the deck or on top of the angled rock formation inside the field works better.

I've soloed some others but getting the Archon Priest seems really tough to me. The dropships that come in can two shot you and the various Captains that swarm you can take you down just as quickly.
I haven't attempted it yet, but I'm not looking forward to using all my ammo synthesis and then dying to some dumb dropship that I can't kill...

Every time I have played this Strike with people hiding under the deck, at least one of them has died from his massive stomp attack. He just trots up there and stomps a couple times until they die.

On the phogoth nightfall I still needed to use icebreaker on wizards even though I had a fully upgraded arc shotty.

I feel like that has more to do with range than anything else. With arc burn on, getting within shotgun range of a wizard would have been suicide (they do arc damage, BTW). Hell, getting anywhere within attack range of a wizard was generally a bad idea in that strike.

My experience has been that the burn buff is so massive that you're typically better off sticking with whatever damage type is boosted. Shield resists aren't enough to make up the difference. There's nothing I like better than a solar burn modifier - I just load up Light/BEWARE and proceed with the domination. It'll one-shot void shielded shanks, no problem. Come to think of it, the last time that happened was before I had Gjallarhorn. I wonder what that'll be like...

Three waves part: go to the back area where the hive come in that leads down to the grotto (it's a big green tunnel), no one will come down there and you can snipe in peace.

Walker: stay at the entrance to the clearing and snipe in peace.

It's a near-guarantee. ;) (There's also a Captain-led group of Fallen that spawns just to the right of the building - so right in front of the entrance - who will kick your ass if you're scoped in and not paying attention there.)

The final room, too... I've run into that stairwell to recover, only to be blasted by stuff coming up from underneath. I think your 'cheese' areas have just been really lucky for you (or really UNlucky for me).

Totally agree with the green tunnel, though; it's saved my bacon more than once. (Sometimes I get killed GETTING there, and you WILL be sniped by the invisiVandal on the platform if you aren't careful - but it's as close to 'safe' as anything gets.)

This sort of post (and there have been lots - there was even a 'what's your favorite weapon?' thread where EVERY post was of this sort) surprises me. I have ONE good weapon of each class. (Well, maybe 2 for regular weapons.) The idea that I might have a pool of a half-dozen fully-upgraded snipers to choose from, covering every damage type... well, it's sort of funny.

I get that the game's been out for two months now, and I get that the average hard-core player is putting in 3 hours a day (so 200 hours is AVERAGE), so maybe it's just that my 100 in-game hours isn't enough to have this astounding arsenal at my disposal... but geez.

Take it up with Bungie for putting in a shit investment system, then tying your ability to perform to it.

FYI, nothing I've used to do nightfall strikes and the raid except The Calming, Atheon's Epilogue, and Patience and Time have been drops. I've bought everything else. I've only gotten 3 exotics from drops, and none of those are that useful PvE. I have really bad luck with drops and have pretty much no raid weapons.

You don't build the majority of your arsenal from the RNG. At least the coin / marks part of the shit investment system is under your control, so utilize this to gain the weapons you want. Even infrequent play should have netted you 150 vanguard marks by now to buy a weapon with.

That's just what you get with games like this.

I would much rather have had all these tools at everyone's disposal, and had player skill and ingenuity in using them be the factor in success. The idea that 'exotics should be rare' is only good for the egos of players with one; it's not good for the game design. It hurts when influential folks like Datto talk about how to 'fix' exotics, while starting with the very flawed premise that not everyone should have them.

Also in truth, max upgrading beyond getting the perks is only necessary on the hard mode Vault of Glass, and Solo Nightfall.

Indeed. To the right directly from the wide door where you enter, there's a pipe you can stand on up the wall as well. Nothing will spawn and nothing will shoot you. At Sepkis, if you don't go down the stairs, the only way to die is if you go down the stairs, or stand too close to the window.

Though to be fair, my definition of cheese is any way to avoid the majority of combat from the ads that attack. I really appreciate that bungie tried to build in enemies that spawn to prevent cheesing (if you stand in the entry to Sepkis, for instance, two reaver vandals and a captain spawn from that left stairwell at intervals until you leave the foyer, so to speak).

Heh... I can see why you'd feel that way... Though like 90% of the stuff that I use is stuff that I either bought from the Vanguard (I have the entire Legendary weapon set, and it all gets heavy use), or that I got from the raid, so while RNG has been very kind to me, most of that stuff just sits in my vault. That spare Gjallarhorn might see some use if I ever get my other Warlock to 20, but it's pretty much the only RNG drop that will see any significant use...

If people played about three hours a week on the Strike playlist (which isn't really a whole lot), they'd have about 900 Vanguard Marks by now, so it's surprising that some people don't have enough to get anything from the Vanguard at this point...

If only we could trade items... Don't see why we can't, if we never have the "earned" feeling that we were promised...
