Rumble Ain't So Bad (Destiny)
by Ragashingo , Official DBO Cryptarch, Monday, November 17, 2014, 10:31 (3899 days ago)
Recently I got to play a bit of Rumble thanks to a crucible bounty and a couple of DBOers who wanted to get it and I did ok but got walloped on the maps I'd never played. But yesterday I went back and really enjoyed it. Just a few thoughts:
1. Gunslinging Hunters own small maps. Having a good short range primary (a Hand Cannon or an auto rifle) + having a pair of flaming throwing knives + having a backup close range weapon (an auto shotgun in my case) worked very well. I can't envision a way either of my Titan variants could have done better. A properly speced Hunter gives you a longer sustained stream of close range firepower than any other class. Case in point, I was getting a ton of double downs and a couple of triple downs on Anomaly even though I'd only played the map maybe twice. I was often lost but decided I could do all right defending ANY random doorway that I lured people too... and it worked!
2. It's nice to not have so many people to fight. One of my biggest surprises with Destiny is that I turned out to be good at the Crucible. One on one I'm pretty deadly, and not because I'm the best shot but because I'm good with tactics. A lot of this comes from Halo where either I'd lose a straight BR / DMR battle more often than not, or I'd be trying to face down snipers and shotguns that I could rarely get my hands on. Facing only one person at a time instead of a team rushing to Point B (or whatever) is largely a cakewalk. I still lost encounters, sure, but lost them to being double teamed far less often.
3. Going from a map I didn't know to Shores of Time made me giggle. I love Shores of Time and it showed. I actually lost both games, coming in second and third place, but I had far fewer death than the winners each time. When I know the alternate routes and know where the special ammo is, and know the corners well enough to predict where you're going next... it's a lot of fun.
4. I need to grab a couple of you and do some of that 3 on 3 next. I've gotten to the point where I think I could be competitive now instead of flobbing all over the place the last time I tried it.

The number of times you and I simultaneously killed each other...ridiculous.

It'd be one thing if we were doing it with similar guns... but The Last Word vs Pocket Infinity simultaneous kills... that was great and unexpected! :)

I'll say it again...Last Word was the only gun I consistently lost to this weekend, against different players. Maybe one guy with a suros or a plan c would give me trouble, but every last word user did.

If you are on xbone friend me. I can only play these two game types because of a slower internet connection. I'm very familiar with the 6 player maps and after I finally found that I play best with auto rifles and shotties, my kd has shot up.
I'd love to have some teammates I could coordinate with, only issue is sometimes I get knocked to orbit because of my connection.

Mercury is epic
by Ragashingo , Official DBO Cryptarch, Monday, November 17, 2014, 10:53 (3899 days ago) @ Leviathan
Just the intro shot of your Jumpship approaching with Mercury casting that huge shadow from being so near the sun... And then the skybox of the sun and the Vex spires... I did my best to die on that map just by looking out at the beauty. :)

I want singleplayer mercury and saturn dammit

When you are in orbit around Mercury, the sun is the same size as it is for all the other planets, despite them all being different distances from the sun :-p

Of course it is

The Sun doesn't magically change its size just because you move around. ;p

Neither is the moon.

Generally I'm pretty happy with how "right" Bungie got details. I've often thought of compiling a list of things they got right & wrong with regards to physical correctness. I'll have to add this to my list of things they missed, so far it's pretty small:
Things they got wrong:
1- Gravity isn't different on the different planets, it should be!
2- The stars don't move through the sky with the sun while on the moon, they should!
3- The day-night cycle is too fast on the moon when compared with the Earth's (it should really move at approximately 1/28th the speed that it does on the Earth). I wonder if they got it right on mars & venus, I doubt it.
4- The sun doesn't take up a larger/smaller proportion of the sky on the different planets (I have not actually measured this).
Now you could argue away a lot of these with Traveller Space Magic™, but I'd like to think that the traveller isn't THAT magic.

Of course Rumble works for you--you've got what is literally a cheese class, for near infinite reasons.
1. You can kill someone literally by just running.
2. You have a knife you can throw, which--by indirect extension--means a melee you can use across long distances
3. Insta-kill, quick recharge Golden Gun
4. The Cop-Out Fuck You Attack
5. You can also kill someone by literally jumping.
All Hunter exclusives. Rumble is fun for you because the game is cheating for you.
Try it on a class that actually has some small resemblance of what balance used to be, and I guarantee you before anyone even gets the first kill, you'll wish you were dead.

Huh. I've been playing almost exclusively as a Hunter as I haven't had time to work on other characters yet, and I've never experienced any of these things. Maybe I'm just terrible?
Now Titans, THATS a cheese class. ;)

Don't make me come over there... :p

Five reasons, three of which I've never heard of, count as near infinite? Ok...

3. Insta-kill, quick recharge Golden Gun

Huh. Either you don't know what the heck you are talking about... Or I am seriously using my Hunter wrong! Literally kill just by running or jumping?? My Golden Gun is more instant than Fists of Havock or Nova Bomb? I just have no idea whatsoever what reason three is...

You guarantee is worth nothing. My main character is a Titan and I do just as well. Is that ok? Or is the Titan's infinitely long list even longer than the Hunter's five made up items?!
Or maybe your post was all one big joke?

Sorry, those were just my five favorites. I'll come up with the infinite list on my next day off.
1. You can kill someone literally by just running
Shoulder Charge.
2. You have a knife you can throw, which--by indirect extension--means a melee you can use across long distances
Throwing Knife
3. Insta-kill, quick recharge Golden Gun
Self-explanatory, lasts up to 20 seconds
4. The Cop-Out Fuck You Attack
I refuse to ever even call this by its real "name", but you know what I'm talking about.
5. You can also kill someone by literally jumping
Blink Strike.
Or maybe your post was all one big joke?
Only ones that are laughing are Hunters, which is why my next character will be as suc--
BUNGIE ALERT!! BUNGIE ALERT!! Hunter class nerfed just in time for Morpheus to try it!
Hmm. Okay, I guess not.
Now Titans, THAT'S a cheese class. ;)
Well, the only things I've seen from them through experience is the Bubble Shield(which I recently found out there were multiple types) and the grenade that explodes eight times. But at least the grenade doesn't move!
Only benefit the Warlock has is the extra grenade, the very last update on the 2nd subclass. It does help a lot, though, especially in my case. :-)

Wait, they have this?

1. You can kill someone literally by just running
Shoulder Charge.
I thought shoulder charge was only striker titan?
Also, I nuke down bladedancers all the time with Corrective Measure or Pocket infinity. I've even beaten them down during radiance. Bladedancer is way harder to use effectively than people think; I tried it for a while and decided to just make another Warlock alt.
And warlocks also have blink strike if they want it.

100% honest: I don't have one single clue what you are referring to. At all.
5. You can also kill someone by literally jumping
Blink Strike.
Different Hunter subclass meaning you get no Golden Gun or Throwing Knives. Unless you think I play as two classes at once??

Hmm. Okay, I guess not.
So, one item in your list doesn't apply to hunters, roughly half of your list is mutually exclusive because it's not actually possible to play a Gunslinger and Bladedancer at the same time, and one item is so awesome and terrifying that you refuse to speak of it and I have no clue what it might be. To say I've seen stronger arguments would be a vast, humorous understatement. :)
Now Titans, THAT'S a cheese class. ;)
Well, the only things I've seen from them through experience is the Bubble Shield(which I recently found out there were multiple types) and the grenade that explodes eight times. But at least the grenade doesn't move!
There is no grenade that explodes eight times. Defender Titans have one that is magnetic but it only explodes once then explodes again for less damage. Two does not equal eight.
Only benefit the Warlock has is the extra grenade, the very last update on the 2nd subclass. It does help a lot, though, especially in my case. :-)
Coming back from the dead with plentiful grenades doesn't count? Or setting people on fire by punching them? Or dealing extra burn damage with grenades? Or hovering in midair taking shots at people?

He's talking about the bladedancer super

Supers are super for a reason bra! And bladedancer's super, like I've said earlier in the thread, is much harder than it looks, and easier to counter than almost any other super.

Titan, not Hunter.
My mistake.
5. You can also kill someone by literally jumping
Blink Strike.
Different Hunter subclass meaning you get no Golden Gun or Throwing Knives. Unless you think I play as two classes at once??
You don't, but I'm willing to bet there are people who plan Super boosting(Using a Super as one class, then quickly switching subclasses and picking up orbs) and getting themselves killed so they can respawn fully charged, since that is possible in Crucible.
Well, the only things I've seen from them through experience is the Bubble Shield(which I recently found out there were multiple types) and the grenade that explodes eight times. But at least the grenade doesn't move!

No, but Fist of Havoc+Lightning Grenade does.

Again, two. And yes, I do consider it a bonus, as posted earlier. The Scorch melee is entirely useless for the following two reasons: 1. Either the melee itself kills them to begin with, or 2. They have too much health, shield or overshield for those slight burns to make any difference. I've been hit by Scorch Melees myself, and if I didn't die from the Melee itself, I didn't die at all. Even when my health was red from the resulting scuffle, it would just drain to the slightest sliver and then stop. Of course, I'd usually get killed immediately by someone else, since the entire Crucible population has Raid gear, but not from the Scorch.
Touch of Flame, I'll give you that one. Angel of Light, however, makes you a sitting--or floating--duck. So it's more of a hindrance than a bonus.

Yes, it's possible but why do it? You open yourself up to being killed while in a menu, you'd decharge your grenades and melee, and you aren't really gaining anything... unless you have Exotic armor that gives you a fresh grenade on respawn...
Touch of Flame, I'll give you that one. Angel of Light, however, makes you a sitting--or floating--duck. So it's more of a hindrance than a bonus.
I've seen some great strageties with Angle of Light. One guy would hide behind a rock or crate, jump up and hover, snipe at you, and drop to safety if you managed to start firing back. I used it myself to catch people off guard when they thought they were somewhat safe behind low cover. Hovering above them as they panicked was a lot of fun. :)
