Suggestions from Postmortem (Destiny)
Alright. I've been compiling a list of things I think would improve Destiny's experience since I started playing the game. I've been off Destiny for a while so I figure now would be a good time to post this, before I forget entirely. Would love to hear what people think of these:
- Materials from breaking down ships.
- In-game Grimoire (a library in the Tower was an idea mentioned before)
- Hold LT for first-person view in the Tower
- Remove depth-of-field in the Tower
- Tower needs a salon for players to change and view their appearance
- More activities to do from within the Destiny companion app to advance your character/interact with world, without creating uninteresting mini-games
- Manually remove notifications from star map (I completed the VoG and have no interest in doing it on hard mode, let me remove that ! please)
- Destiny novel needs to be a thing (perhaps explaining how current Tower residents got to where they are now?)
- More varieties of ships (too many of these look the same)
- Upgrade storage for glimmer (I'm tired of running out of space and having constant glimmer notifications at the Tower that I can't redeem)
- World needs to provide feeling of progression (more enemies in wild before that area's story completion, less after? Constantly respawning enemies make you feel unaccomplished.)
- Tower characters should join you in the field from time to time
- Warp animation for joining a fireteam rather than a black screen
- Weapon skins/shaders
- All items in companion app need 3D preview
- Remove z-fighting on cloth
- Ability to take and save photographs, or at least remove HUD for capture cards
- Longer, non-story activities to do while scouting the wild (longer missions dropped from beacons, more exploration-based stuff, more immersive quests)
- Ability to go prone and snipe
- More open areas for Destiny 2 (Bethesda style please)
- More hidden secrets to discover (Bethesda style please)
- More atmospheric, less shooty. More quiet moments! (This has been discussed before)
- Slower pace, more often (goes along with above. I come to Destiny to relax, I'd like the game to allow me to do that.)
- Ambient, non-aggressive AI (Moa-style)
- Less invisible walls and soft barriers
- Area maps (only having access to maps from orbit is absurd)
- Non-symmetrical head decorations for Exos (I would've chosen a decoration for my Exo character, but I didn't like having features on both sides. Just one antenna would've been cool.)
- Perhaps split patrol maps into enemy-controlled areas and free-roam areas for a calmer more atmospheric experience (events could sometimes happen where enemies push in to free areas and must be pushed back out, like larger public events. Imagine players teaming up to fight a full-fledged battle in order to get back to their peace and quiet!)
- Upgrade materials from Legendary/Exotic breakdown (it doesn't feel good breaking down these items)
- Show Xur's inventory in the companion app (attentive people will find it elsewhere online - from their phones - anyway)
- Community bounties (allow users to submit bounties, rewarding other players glimmer or gear they don't want to break down for completing their tasks: kill a Gorgon, help me find dead Ghosts, etc)
- Travel to unpopulated Crucible maps (it was fun walking around empty Halo multiplayer maps, why can't we soak in the atmosphere of Destiny's without being shot at?)
- No countdown timer after Strikes, allowing players who like exploring to backtrack on an empty map (the rest can go to orbit whenever they like)
- Multiple patrol spawn points (one per subsection of a world? Spawning in the same place and having to always move through the same paths to get anywhere is frustrating and boring.)
- Lower weapon ability a la RvB (machinima makers and people who just want to walk around less alert-looking would love this)
- Silenced weapons (sometimes its nice to kill without being heard)
- Assassinations (Halo Reach style)
- Map markers showing how many Ghosts uncollected (just as with gold chests)
- Completing patrol missions increases your patrol level and gains you access to more complex missions (the more you patrol, the more interesting your patrols get)
- Unique events should require AI enemies to be cleared from multiplayer maps (this worked quite well in 343's Spartan Ops and would fit into Destiny's universe perfectly. Shaxx could require Guardians to dispatch the enemies to keep the arena clear for combatants.)
- Something similar to the Iron Banner should allow PvP action in Patrol areas during unique events
- Vex structures should not sound like chests/resources (it's just confusing and frustrating)
- Let us see previews of all class items without logging out and logging back in (If I'm playing as a Hunter, I'm going to be able to view that Titan gear, it will just take me an extra minute to switch out my characters. Trimming that time down would be nice. Perhaps only unlock those previews once you've made a character with that class?)
- Raise Glimmer cap, otherwise consumables and other items that obtain more Glimmer become useless
- Gold chests and dead Ghosts need markers after they’ve been picked up, so you can still see where they are and help others find them if you forgot the locations (shadows, area of glimmering light, open chest, something)
- Manually reset checkpoint progress in raids and missions (if I want to explore the area just inside the Vault of Glass, but I recently ran it with a fireteam partway, I don't want to have to wait until next week for my checkpoints to reset so I can do that exploring)
That's what I've got. :)
