I'm not one of those negative nancies whose head exploded when the upgrade thing came about, but seriously, this game has way too many currencies as it is, and now we're getting more (and another one for Eris as well, don't forget)...

Bungie's definitely doing a good job of counteracting all of the progress that they've been making (especially the great leap forward they made in just this last week)... It's very odd. Very bad decision making at the moment, but nothing's set in stone, and the game can definitely fix these issues. I do feel for Deej, though... Communicating such massive and constant changes has to be tough, especially considering how lousy Bungie has proven to be with communication in general...

That said, I'm eager to grab the DLC. I believe in Bungie.

Agreed, it's already complicated enough, but now they want to add more currencies?

Just to enumerate:
- Motes of Light
- Strange Coins
- Ascendant Shards
- Ascendant Energy
- Vanguard Marks
- Crucible Marks

With the exception of Vanguard and Crucible Marks you aren't guaranteed to get any of the other currencies so you just have to play until you randomly earn enough to get something. Now they are adding and additional 5 currencies!?

I wrote about this a month ago and it's gotten even worse. I suggested that we make a distinction between currencies and materials (don't have them over lap) and make them follow the standard white, green, blue, purple, yellow scheme. (see here: http://destiny.bungie.org/forum/index.php?id=42249).

Unfortunately, it looks like bungie isn't looking at the economy holistically. Instead we are seeing all these little changes that address one or two problems and then create more problems elsewhere.

The article that freaked us all out yesterday about exotics also had some pretty encouraging news hidden in like page 2 or something. I'm quoting it below because I don't remember seeing anyone talk about it.

In addition, if you don’t get the specific energy or shards you’re hoping for, Eris Morn offers an exchange, allowing you to trade in one for the other. Another way to get radiant shards and radiant energy is to break down unwanted items acquired in the raid.

Perhaps most importantly, the loot raid drops for Crota’s End have been refined from what we experienced in the Vault of Glass. Specifically, the game will pay closer attention to the drops you’ve already had, as well as how long it’s been since you get a “fun” drop (as opposed to just materials). While there’s still a significant component of randomness, Bungie strongly implied to me that players should have a more consistent reward experience with the raid than what has been experienced in Vault of Glass when the Crota’s End raid launches on day one of the expansion.

Do we have to earn one for each weapon and piece of armor we have to buy? Will I have to go up a rank each time I want to buy something? And do I get any commendations for all the ranks I've already earned?

That is disheartening. Grinding to keep exotics relevant. Grinding to get new legendaries to replace current legendaries (one per rep level). Hopefully the Raid RNG is drastically improved as per Bungie's comment. I don't have an issue with obselecense, my issue is with artificially lengthening the game with gates like this. I like the way the vendors worked pre-DLC. I'd be happy to grind to a new rep level in order to have a whole new selection available. I'm not looking forward to grinding to new rep levels in order to make one purchase - especially with no way to try out or test the purchase.

I hope the commendation is guaranteed to be in each package and not RNG'd or I will be a little displeased.

YES, level up your Vanguard/Crucbile rank one level for each Commendation only good for one piece of gear.

NO, you don't get any commendations for the levels you already have.

Like I said in my thread, this is a kick in the nuts.

If I had to guess I would guess it'll be like the regular game. You can get to level 31 without the expansion, but you can only get to 32 (maybe 33 since the Hard Raid is level 33?) by playing the Raid.

My guess is the new legendary gear will get you to 30 without needing special Iron Banner / Vault of Glass gear while you'd need Dark Below Raid gear to reach level 31 and 32. I think the only place you'd suffer is Iron Banner... but even then I think as long as you're within 2 levels of your opponent you are 100% fine. So if you reach level 30 the only thing you'd actually be underleveled for is the new raid's hard mode... which you won't have since you didn't buy the DLC.

Per the release notes, the new Legendary gear will get you up to 31. BUT, you need a Vanguard/Crucible Commendation (obtained by each time you level up your Vanguard/Crucible rank), to buy each new piece of armor or weapons.

The new raid will drop gear that can get you up to 32, but you need raid exclusive materials (Radiant Shards, Radiant Energy) in order to level the raid armor/weapons up.
