Any of you gus play COD? Know what he's talking about? (Destiny)

TLDR;
- COD goal driven - crush opponent - hear him suffer
- Destiny experience driven
- People are a mixture of goal driven vs experience driven
- In the past COD had to appeal to both sides of our natures and so include content for both to be sold at a single game's price
- Destiny let Activision split COD in two and charge full price for both parts
- things missing in Destiny are to be found in COD and vice versa
- and this explains the, sometimes confusing, design decisions that built Destiny
So Destiny was built/chopped-down to make it compliment COD. What you pine for in one game you will find in the other.
Neither of them give me a compelling story

Someone is thinking too hard in this video.

I understand thinking too little but too hard?

It makes sense not to think in isolation when trying to understand what happened with Destiny.
Activision must have had a commercial plan when they entered into a deal with Bungie.
Is there truth in the idea that cooperative play was toned down in COD and competitive play toned down in Destiny?
He suggests that it wouldn't make sense for Activision's two games to compete with each other but I remember hearing that most pet food (cat or dog) "brands" were actually owned by just two companies. If one company makes a new brand then it takes some customers from its own brands and some from its rival's. There is a net gain when making a new brand.
Would that work in the gaming industry? Destiny might take from Halo as well as COD.
I get the impression that most people here wouldn't piss on COD if it was on fire so it's hard to imagine that most people here would own both. But is that true outside of DBO?
He plays both games and I've met plenty of people in Destiny who play both games. Is he being hopelessly naive or is there considerable overlap between the populations?

COD is on PC, Destiny isn't. All arguments are invalid

My first impression is that this guy is - as one of the commenter so eloquently put it - a pseudo-intellectual twat.
COD goal driven - crush opponent - hear him suffer
Destiny experience driven
Without wasting my time listing to his entire 15 minute rant over randomly spliced gameplay clips, this doesn't appear true at all.
How many goals are you given in destiny? Get to 30, level up these weapons, acquire these weapons, do these bounties, get this currency, this item. Why do people raid? To get cool weapons, unique armour pieces. Loot. Loot. Loot.
Is the rest of the rant worth listening to?

Completely. Destiny is by and large REWARD driven, now experience driven. If it were experience driven, you wouldn't need rewards.
COD is and has been based on the traditional deathmatch gameplay. The focus is entirely on multiplayer and the story is a tacked on the side, and by story I mean the PVE modes. COD has some good elements in the PVE modes, and one or two missions are interesting and fun, but overall the focus is entirely on PVP.
COD's progression is iterative and time based. Play long enough and you will get everything even if you are a poor player. Once you reach a certain point, you can reset your progression and stats and get an icon indicating you have done so. Rewards are usually frequent, with a new item every few matches. Skill based awards are usually clothes or icons and have no in game effect.
Destiny has a much more skill based, a PVE and PVP split focus and with more random progression. The iterative portion leaves you with blue gear, and a slower purple gear mechanic. Leveling in Destiny is much slower then COD. Customization is more random, with the RNG giving items that may or may not have the perks you want. In addition the high end gear requires both skill, time and equipment to acquire. The raids are harsh, especially on hard, and a large time investment.
I had friends who are COD stalwarts that tried Destiny, but they don't have the time or skill to invest in the game. They quit at around level 16 on their first characters and went back to COD. It wasn't that they disliked the game, it was mainly they didn't have the time to grind for shards/marks/rep. COD lets them get into the fight at a relatively even level (more or less) right away and they don't have to worry too much about progression.
Sort version, COD is candy out of a vending machine. It is sweet and available any time you have a few coins to rub together. Destiny is a large, delicious cake (filled with the walnuts of RNG despair) that costs far more and shouldn't be wolfed down in a few bites.

This Batman character is blessed with the ability to confidently deliver a few nuggets of insight in a pile of BS in such a way as to make it all seem reasonable.
