You know, the song has a decent underlying tune and sound mix if I don't pay attention to the lyrics... but this is... yeah... It's hard to tune out the cheesiness with a visual aide like that.
Why did they decide to make the hologram hobbit-sized? I think that might have been the weirdest part for me...

Okay, so it's not the best song McCartney's ever written by a long shot. It's boring. Now it has a boring video to match. As music videos go, that makes it average in my book. There's only a handful of music videos that I felt enhanced a song, and this one seems right out of the standard playbook for every video ever made of a song from a movie or other form of entertainment. Show scenes from the other thing. Insert singer into the environment, etc.
The most interesting part to me was that they fixed the collision flickering with the guardians' clothes and ground. With the huntress' cloak though, you can still see it dropping straight through the rock she's sitting on.
Wonder how much Bungie contributed to this.
I really wish it had had dudes standing and dancing on Sparrows.

Heh, yeah, but unfortunately, it's not Paul's most danceable number either.

Hey, maybe they dig it, I don't know. I've always had to skip/delete those bonus songs by random bands included on the Halo soundtracks. This is like the ultimate expression of that, heh. :)
It's kind of funny though - Paul made, what I think is, one of the better James Bond songs, and here he is doing the same kind of thing for Destiny, and it seems at home with some of the cheesiest Bond songs. Paul still has a great voice, but I think the problem is really all in the lyrics. When you sync up your contribution to the associated work too much, too simply, too blatantly, it just goes over the top. Put it into a video and it's definitely too much, even before the weird hologram thing.
You see a film where somebody goes through a breakup and a song starts playing with the words "breakups are bad, do dee do dee do" and you're not adding anything to the sequence. You're concreting it for the audience instead of opening it up. I've always enjoyed music selection that supplements a work but adds its own separate elements to the interpretation, the expansion, of the ideas being expressed in the original medium. Probably why a couple of my favorite Bong themes are the ones that don't have the title of the movie in the chorus...

I agree about Live and Let Die, it's one of the top 3, maybe 2 Bond songs, and that's from a franchise with a ton of amazing songs.
Paul sings like a bird. I felt I wanted an aggressive B section to the tune, to reflect the grit in Destiny.
Then again, I play Destiny with the sound off. The PVP announcer is a tragedy to a wonderful, wonderful game.

You don't like Lord Shaax? Ah, I think he's cool. He needs some more variety for sure but I like the immersion and getting told I'm playing like shit constantly. Somehow he knows! :)

Matter of taste perhaps!

I still think the all-time best announcer I've ever heard in a video game was the Myth one.
Casualty.
CASUALTIES.
There's actually a sound tag in Myth's resources for "MASSIVE CASUALTIES," but no one has ever been able to make it work.
I prefer an announcer that's disinterested and detached, on the verge of being mocking and sarcastic, rather than a "go get 'em buddy you can do it" or "wow we're kicking their butts" in an effete British.
But that's just me.

I think I'd agree with you for most games, but I really like the story-based premise behind the Crucible so it works for me. :)
I'd actually like more flavor, if anything, and someday, backstabbing faction side-stories that color the Crucible in meaningful ways. Maybe different playlists would have different announcers depending upon the faction-sponsorship. Maybe the whole population's stats over a period of time in a playlist would lead to different cinematic shifts in power on the Tower, etc. You could even have the successes and losses of a faction affect the economy of vendors, although you'd have to be pretty careful with that.
Lord Saladin should also get his own announcer voice when the Iron Banner comes around too, not outsource it to Shaax, who, if I recall correctly from the Grimoire, isn't a big fan of Saladin, anyways!

Oh PS, I just watched the Destiny video muted with Live and Let Die playing. Couple of fun little moments!

I blame Yoko Ono for all of this.

...Probably be digging into the Speaker and tearing apart the oppressive aristocrats up in their "Tower".
...George's would be all about the gifts of the Traveler and finding inner Light. And a great guitar solo in the bridge.
....And Ringo... Well, probably something about a submarine in Europa and how much he likes fish.

I didn't hear the song until earlier today because someone was talking about it and until now I kept hoping Bungie would, if not put the credits video in the game, at least have it on their site, and then forgetting about it. My thoughts on the video are a lot like my thoughts on the song: it's cheesy, but I think it fits with Bungie and Paul McCartney. Maybe it should be a little less repetitive and maybe a little less direct, but I think it works. The video has that plus an element of feeling cheap, like a fan production, but for all the cheesiness and cheapness and repetition, it feels genuine, it feels like he really did come up with all this. Whether he could've used an editor or something, I don't know, it's very possible. Honestly, it's kind of adorable, like a kid that made what is, for that kid, a good drawing, but it's still very artistically flawed, but you can't stop smiling because it's kind of funny but also because they did OK and they poured their heart onto a page for you. I can't help but think of an alternate reality where more of the Beatles are alive and on good terms with each other, and they'd all been in on this, and able to bounce ideas off each other and act as editors and critics before anything could get out the door, and maybe even do more than produce one song and help direct the overall sound of the game... but that's a world that can't be, I'd rather have a real future with real hope.
Still nowhere near as bad as 343 Industries
