Bungie does not get it (Destiny)

by Cody Miller @, Music of the Spheres - Never Forgot, Monday, December 08, 2014, 20:20 (3878 days ago)

Log in. There's a patch.

The daily Story mission no longer has a level 28 option but is instead replaced with level 30. However the rewards for the level 30 are exactly the same as for the 28 in the past.

This is the god damn definition of a loot treadmill right there: you have to gear up further just to stay in place if you weren't 30.

Someone knock some sense into these guys.

Clearly you don't get it: they're not going to apologize for the grind, let alone get rid of it or change it much. You'll note I didn't say that you don't get that the grind is intentional, because you made it clear before the game even came out that you know that. You made it clear at the first rumor of this being an MMO what grind is all about and why you hate it, and to your credit you've been clear and consistent in that. Talking like you don't know what they're getting at doesn't help your points and it's getting more annoying.
I'm not even saying they're right in doing this, I'm just getting annoyed at the ways you keep bringing it up. This is not what earned you the grudging respect you have, this is lazy, repetitive rage. In fact, reading your posts has become a grind. Congratulations, you are what you hate.

Not talking at all about your opinions, criticism, etc. here but you DO create a lot of the same threads, sometime right in a row, with similar titles and notions. You've already got one on the front page of the forum right now getting a good amount of replies. It's a little... repetitive at times. :)

From purely a ease-of-reading perspective, I think focusing your thoughts into fewer threads at a time, like by creating sub-threads out of the current one you have going, would be beneficial. It makes the board easier to navigate, and you'll probably convey a more accurate impression of yourself to some of the less agreeing folks who might interpret the other kind of posting as just venting or trolling or something. Your voice will come across more potent. :)

If one person was posting a slew of "Destiny Is Awesome", "Bungie Gets It!", etc. in short periods of time, they too would lose their potency, if you catch my drift.

These are actually separate issues. I've long rallied against grinding to advance, but this is slightly different in that it is grinding to keep the status quo. Similar notions, but the latter is far worse, and is also something I haven't really talked about, aka the 'loot treadmill'.

Well...You did just talk about that loot treadmill in your "What needs to happen with Destiny 2", which was the bigger thread I was referring to...

But that's not really important. I was talking in general, the grand scheme of things, sorry if I didn't make that clear! :)

I'm not saying "slightly different" can't become a new thread sometimes. It's just that you post so many of these kinds of threads, frequently with unrevealing, Bungie-is-doing-it-wrong titles like this one's, that it's easy to mistake your voice as flamebait and begin to gloss over, and thus these nuances you're picking apart, which may contain new insights or important issues, might be lost to a number of potential readers. Hence something like General Vagueness's post.

Are they really?

Right now I play Destiny and the game slowly gives me various currencies and RNGed loot which I use to make my Guardian more powerful. In a few hours, after The Dark Below drops, I'll play Destiny and the game will slowly give me various currencies and RNGed loot which I will use to make my Guardian more powerful.

With my level 29 Hunter what is the actual, practical difference going to be between now and then?

Didn't Bungie already come out and say that the Daily/Weekly levels would be going up, and payouts would get better along with them? Perhaps the rewards look the same (same number of materials for dailies, for example) but the RNG's dials have been tweaked to give better drops more often? Or perhaps the loot payouts will change later tonight when the DLC drops?

Hasn't happened yet--other than the rewards that I got from finishing Eris' story missions, all my drops have been exactly the same. In fact, tonight alone, I actually got the same two useless weapons...twice. Two different simultaneous drops, 15 minutes apart, both weapons exactly the same. Like they didn't want me to delete it.

No matter. I don't really have a problem with it.

So I don't make a new thread...

They got one thing, at least.

The little bit I've seen of the story missions so far on Hard difficulty has been pretty neat, and a welcome change from DEFEND THIS DOOR.

I understand the frustration: Raising the difficulty without raising the reward. I honestly think they should've kept the Level 28 the way it was, and give four Ascendancy for 30. Because now, I have to really bust my ass to get the Daily done(I'm 29, that's why) for the same rewards. I don't know--Bungie said they'd give us what we need to level up, which makes me glad I don't have to do the raid(s) a million times in order to nail a good set of boots.
