Just seems slightly wrong to me.

Perhaps not. Me and Leviathan both own The Dark Below and they were locked for us as well. Maybe it's something story related?

This Nightfall is indeed paywalled. Which is perfectly okay.

You have to do the story missions before the bounties open up...
Opened up after completing the bounties she gives for Cosmodrome (which are awesome)...
So yeah, paywall. Doesn't bother me. Definitely gives people incentive to get the DLC, which has already paid for itself with fun...

I am. Would rather have the DLC integrated into the game and progression than set aside and hardly ever come in MP hoppers or nightfall's. It should be seemless for expansion owners, as if the game got bigger naturally in every way. I'm sure some weeks will have the vanilla nightfall missions, don't worry. And I understand it sucks if you don't buy the expansion, but if you are still playing after 3 months I'm sure you are saving your pocket money for it.
If Bungie can get me content every 3 months than I treat that like a subscription to Destiny, one that is painless to delay or ignore when not actively playing. Even better than a subscription, if I don't buy an expansion I can still access all the content I had previously except for a few high end modified instances of some strikes and story missions.
And in terms of progression, sounds like the tower vendors have upped their game anyway, minimizing the need for that content for the under 30's.
3 Months between non-MP map Bungie content is so much better than years. I'll buy that for a dollar (x40).

Not only the Nightfall and the weekly, the entire level 26 Strike playlist is now locked if you don't have the DLC.
They could of just removed the DLC strike from rotation for the non-DLC owners but nope, you dont get to play at all.. Also, no more engrams for anything other than the new lvl26 playlist.
Yup, that happened.

Vendors make a lot of those drops obsolete now and we never had a level 26 playlist before, that can be considered a DLC feature.
No, it's not as clean as we would all like, but I fail to see any incompetence, greed or maliciousness here. Bungie making tough calls, and they seem like the right ones to me.
As an expansion pack owner of course, but I try to imagine myself in the other camp. Perhaps I am failing at this.

Sure was! Though if Cryptarch ranking is at the top of you list of what is upsetting you about the paywall, maybe it's not so bad?
And again, It shouldn't be every week/day, the one non exclusive strike that will be in the playlist should rotate in only once every 7, the stories will probably drop once or twice a week once they calm down from release spamming them. Though who knows for sure. There could be dickery agreed.

Well... I mean... Imagine you can't access something you've been able to access with your original purchase?...
All this aside, I think it's a temporary restriction for this first week of Dark Below. Currently the only way to access the Omnigul Strike is via the heroic or nightfall mission, unless it also appears in the Vanguard playlists. The only way to access the nightfall and heroic are by completing the quests you receive from Eris once you finish the story missions. I think it's Bungie's version of a launch event.

Is this true? I'm an avid fan of Destiny and play whenever I can but I just can't afford to treat myself to ANYTHING this side of christmas. I won't be able to get the dark below 'till late January IF I'm lucky. I really liked doing the weekly or nightfall when the opportunity arose.
If this is true I hope it's just an oversight and will be patched for those of us who'd love to buy the DLC but can't right now.

They added new content. That new content is added to the playlists (weekly\daily).
When it comes up, if you have it, you notice nothing different.
When it comes up, if you don't have it, you're out of luck.
I don't see how any of this is surprising, honestly. It's not permanent. It's not like the weekly activities are only going to be from the DLC from now on. They might run that way for a couple weeks to integrate the new strikes, and then the old content will return. It will probably get to a point where it's predictable.
Destiny does not operate like Halo did.
Asking or expecting there to be a separate hopper or dual lists for those who do\do not have the DLC isn't going to happen. You are going to be reminded at every chance they get when you don't have the DLC, because they've gotta sell it, dudes.
I don't have the DLC, don't plan to for awhile until I see some reviews.
I ain't mad.

Oh! I thought I wouldn't be able to do ANY weeklies or nightfalls until I got the DLC. If I just have to wait for my content to roll around that's fair. I was never angry by the by. Just disappointed. I'm too mild mannered to be angered by a game.

I didn't think you were- I'm just not surprised by some of the knee-jerk from others around the net.
It's totally reasonable that the new content is the featured content for a bit. If you don't have the content, well, you get a week or two off haha.

Can anyone actually verify on a console that does not have the DLC installed that these changes have taken place?
Or was this all just the assumption people made after seeing those items locked WITH the DLC installed because the story requirements weren't met?

The strike this time is a strike that comes with the DLC. If you don't have the DLC, I don't see how you could play it.

It's both, at least for this week.
If you do have the DLC, they'll INITIALLY be locked pending completion of some items from Eris. I imagine this is just a way to make sure people play the story content before the strikes, since (from what I hear) some new mechanics are introduced there, and the story in the missions is supposed to lead up to the strike, and subsequently the raid.
If you don't have the DLC, they'll be unavailable THIS WEEK, because the weekly heroic and weekly nightfall this week happen to be the strike that comes with the DLC. Obviously, those who do not have the DLC yet won't be accessing them.
I do think some people are mixing up these two scenarios (not the OP, necessarily, though I think the thread title makes it sound like weekly and nightfall are locked out permanently).

Shitty! If you don't own the DLC it should give you a nightfall strike you can play. This week's strike is on an expansion strike. It's even shittier because the level 26 playlist requires the DLC, but only it drops engrams now. That's right, if you didn't buy the DLC, you don't get engram drops as rewards in strike playlists anymore. yesterday if you ran a level 24 playlist, you could get stuff. Now you can't.
That's shitty.

*Sigh*

Did they? I'm seriously floored that they didn't mention this before hand. Please, someone show me I am wrong.
I pretty much play Destiny only for the bounties and those two Strikes now. Who the fuck thinks its okay to remove portions of the game from what I purchased? Did I really buy a game that would slowly lock itself off unless I feed it more money?
Okay, time to temper my anger. I'm waiting for a conciliatory tweet from Deej now . . .

The weekly and the nightfall have always consisted of a random strike. I don't see how this is a big deal tbh. The odds are in your favor that it will be non dlc content. Obviously bungie wanted it to be dlc content this week to reward players that bought it, to mix things up, and to encourage dlc purchases. I guarantee we will be back to nightfall on sepiks next week.
That being said, I feel bad for the xboners. I'd rather they just be one exclusive pack behind than a year behind. I personally think if Bungie wants to do console exclusives than purchasing the dark below should unlock dust palace hawkmoon and monte carlo to our MS brethren.
Then They get the dark b eelow content when they get house of wolves. Its not ideal but its better than the bs we have now

Right, but how hard is it to put up a regular strike as nightfall (at level 28!) for those who don't have the DLC? It also kind of baffles me that Dust Palace can't be put in the rotation.
So for a week, the strike is different for DLC and non DLC people (or Xbox and PS4 people). Why is that a problem?

The fact that the game just got smaller for everyone who doesn't pay up is what there is to be conciliatory about.
However, I read the rest of this thread and am much less mad. Double however, I see no reason why there can't be an alternate weekly Strike for those without the expansion. Meh.

Yeah, I'm not how they thought it was cool to do this. It baffles me that it doesn't go like this:
1. Folks who don't buy DLC keep exactly what they have. If they get more, all the better!
2. Folks who buy the DLC get more stuff.
You are only allowed to give, never take away. Doesn't seem that hard to understand.

running the nexus twice on 3 characters gets pretty old.
This has never made sense to me.

And ditto the sentiment that it's bullshit to take away features, even for a week, that people already bought.
