Grimoire reveals new playlist/gametype (Destiny)
by General Vagueness , The Vault of Sass, Tuesday, December 09, 2014, 15:06 (3878 days ago)
In the Crucible Playlists section under Activities there's a card called Inferno, which reads:
INFERNO +5
"Pick your fights. Stay focused. Or this only gets worse."
- Lord Shaxx
A modified variant of multiple Crucible match types, Inferno tests your Light against the darkest of conditions.Darkness prevails, leaving Guardians to rely on their weaponry and combat skills alone. The enemy can only be found by sight and sound alone. Rely on your teammates and keen tracking to stalk your enemies and shut them down without the trust in your most powerful abilities.
True skill put to the ultimate test. No trackers. No Supers. No bonuses. Only kills earn points.
It sounds like the equivalent of pro/MLG/SWAT gametypes from Halo.

Saw that. I wonder what still works. Guns? Sure. How about grenades? Or melee abilities? Or double jump movement modes?

But where is Oddball???
by Leviathan , Hotel Zanzibar, Wednesday, December 10, 2014, 11:46 (3877 days ago) @ Kahzgul
I wonder how much pressure Bungie feels in trying to distance Destiny multiplayer from Halo? They seem to have friendly soccer games with 343i, but I wonder how much their respective legal departments worry about IP/product infringement?
Just wild speculation, there.

My understanding is that Oddball came from "Kill the Man with the Ball" in Marathon, might have been in Myth in some form too.

Why nobody has implemented the "pile on greg" gametype yet in and subsequent game releases is a mystery.

There's at least two in the Tower... ;)

I guarantee they won't mess with the jump abilities because a lot of the maps have places that are easy to get to with a double jump and impossible to get to with a single jump, Blind Watch and the Shores of Time come to mind. It sounds like we won't get extra points for kills with a grenade or killing the leader or any of that. Beyond that, my speculation is that supers and motion trackers will be disabled but everything else will still work, mainly because the perks on certain guns and armor are just as powerful as some Guardian abilities. I wouldn't be shocked if they disabled grenades too, but I would be kind of surprised and I'd miss them.

I love how Bungie can make a big event out of unlocking gametypes that were available 100% of the time in Halo.

I learned a new word today, it's called "consistency".
Thought you banned yourself?
(Sorry, I forgot, you're not a kid...)

I can't ban myself. Unless you know how?
That was a serious request, though, since nobody here wants me around and they don't believe that what I have to say comes from a sincere place. I'm just waiting for someone to do it.

Enough with the self-pity.
You can't ban yourself, but you can moderate yourself. Find some positive things to say. Find something to be hopeful about and express that so people don't think of you as the guy who is always sarcastic, negative, and dumps on what they like.

*Kermit. Also, I think he meant people don't like folks who dump on what people like.
(Ugly phrasing to avoid ambiguity)

Oops. My mistake.

This. Seriously. Or, alternatively, have enough flipping self-control to just... I don't know... not post at all. You know what that is, right? Because asking to be banned you so you can't post, is pretty much saying "I can't control myself." And, as much as I'm loathe to agree with Korny about, well, anything, that reeks of childishness.
This is an easy thing to do. I've done it myself more than once. The latest was HBO. I've got very little in the way of positive things to say about Halo these days, so I showed myself to the door. I keep up with the forum, I post maybe once a month, but I'm not harping the same tired garbage and raining on everyone's parade.

Heh, I did the same thing, Phoenix. I have not enjoyed 343i's handling of Halo so far and was just wanting to say the same negative things with each bit of news, so I withdrew to a passing glance every few months. Halo changed. Obviously some people are enjoying it so why keep badgering them?
(I started some cartography the other day, btw. Without a compass or high advantage points, it's nigh impossible. :/ )

I won't be banning you, Car, not by request, at least. You're capable of intelligent discussion. So please, stick around and share some thoughtful insights, because I saw you do that today, and even without being rude at times, too.
Destiny is X. You'd like it to be Y, but it simply isn't. We can discuss what works and what doesn't about X, but fixating on a lamentation of how X isn't Y is just wasting your time and mine. As well, the internet and this forum are a persistent place. Stating your disappointment is fine but continuously doing so simply isn't necessary. DBO remembers. :)
You can be a good poster, Car. So try it. Or don't and go seek out Y instead! That's not a sardonic request or jab - I mean it. You have strong desires for a certain game and I bet something somewhere will be able to provide some satisfaction.
If you truly are having self control issues and internet addictions (I've had these problems), try using a browser extension that limits time on a site or blocks it entirely. I use Stay Focused on Chrome. :)

That's less than encouraging to hear... :/
This is right at derailing the thread, so I'll attempt to be brief, but is it a matter of distances and scale? Because that would be my problem. Without a clear overview, I'd have a hopeless time attempting to figure out what was where in relation to everything else.
If that's the case, is it something having easy access to the Director maps would help remedy? At the very least it'd give you a feel for the general shape of the locales, not that those are guaranteed to be truthful (playspace being smaller than environment/worldbox space). The compass though... I have no idea how to solve that problem.
At any rate, if it's a project you'd still like to try, I'm open to offering any assistance I can. My inbox is also open if you want to move this discussion there. I'm not sure if the forum displays my email anywhere or not, but Ian.Sechler@gmail.com.
