Moved it for you.

How kind.

Anyway, there wasn't another thread when I started typing mine up. I obviously wouldn't make a redundant post intentionally (though given the more in-depth info, I'd hardly call my post redundant, especially to the point of it needing to be moved, but whatevs)...

Ruin Wings

According to this: http://www.destinydb.com/items/2591213943-ruin-wings

Heavy weapon ammo drops more often. Wonder if it stacks with weapons that find more heavy ammo. Wonder if this is worth buying. I mean they look baddass too.

Titans, what say you?

Ruin Wings

by someotherguy, Hertfordshire, England, Friday, December 12, 2014, 05:24 (3872 days ago) @ SonofMacPhisto

Weapons that find more ammo dont actually increase the drop rate, but they do increase the amount you get from each drop. Ruin Wings, Heavy Ammo boots and a heavy with Surplus - rolling in ammo.

Shame they're Strength; I rarely use Strength unless Im running a No Backup Plans Defender.

Same here. Might work well on a Defender with Weapons of Light and Iron Harvest.

The perk on Ruin Wings specifically says, "Heavy Ammo drops more often, and contains more ammo in each drop." -- so it seems like these actually do both, which makes them a contender for one of the best Titan exotic armor pieces.

Reload speed increase, endless ammo, feed heavy ammo into whatever Legendary LMG you most desire. Spec Force Barrier for protection, Iron Harvest for orb production, Blessing of Light Ward for when you need a quick combat nap.

Mmm. Violence.

Sorry, I should have worded it better. I meant the Surplus ability.

But yeah these look kind of awesome. Especially with my Shoot to Loot Scout Rifle.

Question: Do i get more shards if i breakdown a maxed exotic

by Schedonnardus, Texas, Friday, December 12, 2014, 06:47 (3872 days ago) @ ChaosSociety

legendaries give you more energy when they are leveled up. will i get more for leveling up an exotic?

I have 2 ice breakers. I would like to buy the upgrade for my unleveled versions, then dismantle the fully leveled ones to offset the amount of strange coins i would need.

Avatar

Maybe.

by Korny @, Dalton, Ga. US. Earth, Sol System, Friday, December 12, 2014, 09:13 (3872 days ago) @ Schedonnardus

Broke down a Maxed helmet and gun, got one shard each. Reports of people doing the same and getting two shards, so it's probably just random.

Exotic Armor Upgrade Math...

by Mid7night ⌂ @, Rocket BSCHSHCSHSHCCHGGH!!!!!!, Friday, December 12, 2014, 06:55 (3872 days ago) @ ChaosSociety

Don't know why I didn't think of this before, and perhaps others have, but here it is anyway.

If Xûr is selling a new version of an Exotic armor you own, it is cheaper to buy the new one than wait for him to carry it as an upgrade.

Numbers:

You want: New Exotic Armor, 2 Exotic Shards

Upgrade Path: Trade Old Exotic for New = 7sc. Buy Exotic Shard = 7sc. Total cost = 14sc

Buy New Path: Buy New version of Old Exotic = 13sc. Break down Old Exotic = free (gain Exotic Shard). Total cost =

If you upgrade your Old Exotic armor, it will (eventually) cost you 2 Exotic Shards; 1 to change from Old to New, and 1 to fully upgrade. This is a total cost of 14sc.

If you buy the New version of your Old Exotic it costs 13sc, but you still have your Old Exotic that you can now break down to give you an Exotic Shard, which you can then save to upgrade your New Exotic. Total cost here was only 13sc.

I thought of this because I've got a Warlock with Voidfang Vestments. Xûr isn't upgrading them this week, but he is selling them.

IMPORTANT: Just in case it wasn't obvious, this option does NOT work for Exotic Weapons, because they cost 23sc to buy, vs. 14 to convert & upgrade.

If he's selling the item, just buy the new version and shard your old item. Otherwise, if you don't want to wait for him to finally sell your item, you can pay a premium and upgrade yours now. There's a higher chance that you'll be able to upgrade instead of having the item available for purchase.

Another option is to buy the Exotic Engrams, as they cost motes (which you hardly ever use), and if you have three classes, you can't lose.

If your exotic armor is maxed you have a chance of getting 2 Exotic Shards for dismantling it!

Someone just tweeted at me that Upgraded Old Exotics level up faster than New purchased Exotics.

Is this true? If so; by how much? Why? Do the Upgraded Old start out at some higher upgrade-state?

At work now, so I haven't actually tested any of this; can anyone shed some actually light?

This wouldn't make any sense. I think they are mistaken. If it were true, there would be two versions of each exotic in the database, one with a lower experience required, and one with a higher experience required. Unless they are somehow giving you a hidden buff, I don't know how it could be true.

Yeah, I don't see any way this makes sense or could actually work. Unless the Upgraded Old has a higher starting defense value than the New purchased one? But if they both end up at the same max value, wouldn't they still take the same amount of time/xp to max out?

One would think, yeah. Like you said, maybe it could work if the new one started out partway leveled, but I think it's pretty clear that's not happening either (though it should be, frankly).

I re-bought Truth. Now I level the new one and shard the old one.

I upgraded the major indispensable weapons: Surros and Icebreaker. I will most likely upgrade Last Word. Red Death sucks now, so I'm leaving that be. If they fix it I'll upgrade or buy it later. It was decent before.

I wouldn't upgrade Bad Juju, Thorn, or Invective, since those bounties appear all the time, and you can just do them again. I would consider upgrading Pocket Infinity since that bounty not only never appears, but took forever.

I think armor is worth upgrading if you have a fav. If you like Armamentarium, then definitely upgrade it. Too bad he isn't offering the Lucky Raspberry.

Yeah

Tempted to upgrade Armamentarium, but that Heavy Ammo bug is still pillaging my Synth/Glimmer supply.

by Schedonnardus, Texas, Friday, December 12, 2014, 08:56 (3872 days ago) @ ChaosSociety

Does xur allow one purchase per character, or one purchase per gamertag?

All i need to get to 31 is a helmet. I may buy the engram on both of my characters to see if i can get what i need. If not, i can dismantle them for shards, without ever spending strange coins.

I bought five once... Of course, it was for Gauntlets, and I already had all of them... Chalk it up to being crazy rich and not knowing there were only three Gauntlets...

Of course, I regret it all now, since I could do it again for helmets...

I had a nice visit with Xur this morning.

I have 2 icebreakers (1 leveled, 1 not) so I traded in my non-leveled version for the new higher-rated one. Also traded some of my exotic armor for higher-level versions.
Then I bought 2 exotic engrams and got new exotic helms for my warlock and hunter.

I'm a happy customer :)

I don't seem to have as much saved up as other people so I pretty much used up all my glimmer and strange coins getting updates.

Bought a couple shards and got the updated Amatarium (sp), Surous Regime, and my not fully upgraded Thunderlord. Think I'm satisfied though now I've got a lot of grinding to do to get them back up to max.

Xur was kind to me today when I leveled him up. His upgrade package gave me two legendary engrams. One decoded to a pretty nice void sniper from the expansion and the other decoded to an upgraded Midas Multi tool exotic. Never had the gun before, I'm liking it. I've gotten several legendaries this week, I'm all out of Ascendant materials. Too bad I don't get to play the raid often for the mats or I could probably be at least 30 now.
