Thoughts on the Urn *Spoilers* (Destiny)

by HavokBlue, California, Friday, December 12, 2014, 04:14 (3875 days ago)

So you get the Urn from Xur, fill it up with a variety of bits and bobs from the Hive, kill Urzok the Hated, and then you get to run a new mission in the World's Grave area involving swords and waves of enemies in a circular room, as per usual. You fulfill Eris' weird eye fetish, and then she gives you...

Some gloves on par with the ones literally everyone has already purchased from the tower vendors?...

For those of you who have finished this, were your rewards different? How did you feel about the quest/bounty process? I thought it was pretty interesting, definitely more-so than your standard exotic bounty. I wish exotic bounties were treated like this, culminating in some sort of semi-relevant story mission.

I thought it was supposed to be some common weapon, that you can then evolve into the necrochasm. Gloves? Lame as hell

I believe Nechrocasm's base AR is only a raid drop. Raid primaries only drop on Hard Mode in Crota's End.

This has been proven false.

A level 7 found the Husk of the Pit from a random hive kill.

Awesome! Link?

Video

Says it's the trial of Destiny. Not sure if that impacts loot drops or not.

The bounty chain was fun, I'd say.

The actual reward was okay, I guess? It had buffs for Scout Rifles, which aren't my thing, but it turned into three Shards, so I'm not complaining.

Are they Int-Dis gloves? For some reason the Vanguard has decided Titans want to punch level 32 Knights to death instead of grenade and Super them. Melee abilities are so disappointing at high levels :/

Melee at high levels is the truest test of skill and mettle.

I love melee. Oh so much.

The range the Warlock melee has is fun, I have to say.

I'd love that. Husker and I tried it the other day and got stomped hardcore style. It was sadness and doom and glory.

You definitely need 3 this week. I think everybody in our run last night had 3 or 4 medic medals each.

'cept these were totally earned. I already have Raid Gauntlets, but I swapped them out for a bit, because these give you 33 light from simply leveling them, while the Raid Gauntlets require Radiant Shards, and won't have more than 27 Light until you get more R-Shards.

I liked having a multi-step process (though they could communicate the completion of each step better), and it was better that we didn't have to return to her for each new step (well, some we did)...

Seeing that there was another mostly fleshed out story mission was the highlight for me and I really wish this was something the game did more.

You investigate the rumors about Thorn and eventually end up going into the Vault of Charlemagne. Your search for the Hard Lighr prototype leads you to Old Russia after a missing fireteam. Fight through a network of Vex timeslips on Venus to retrieve Super Good Advice.

Make them hard, and interesting, so that when you see someone with that exotic rifle you really can go "Hey, I know exactly what they did to get that, that's pretty awesome" like they talked about during development.

And that's exactly how it should have been done. Skill, curiosity, and creativity should be the factors in gear acquisition, not luck. All the best stuff should be super hidden and tough to get, but you should be able to get it 100% on completion. The game world and all the Grimoire need to be set up such that there are hints and clues to all this stuff though.

And it can be done!
I got an exotic Bounty this morning for Pocket Infinity/Super Good Advice, and though they're the two easiest bounties to get (and I do need to upgrade my copies)... I just didn't feel like doing random grindy stuff just for one of them.

If I had to run some really tough mission/bounty sets that didn't require grinds, though... I'd look forward to getting them.

Xur screws up the "Earning" aspect of the weapons, but that could be mitigated if his weapons had slightly worse stats than getting a quest version... Heck, maybe even a different paint scheme would be neat.

Warframe does a thing where participating in special events gets you a weapon skin that actually affects weapon stats in one way or another, on top of giving you the ability to level "another weapon", which makes leveling up your Rank easier...

Can you imagine an Ice Breaker that had a bigger (and blue!) blast radius for the combustion? Maybe the impact would be a little higher, but it only held five rounds...

Or an Invective with incendiary rounds and glowing effects from the barrel...

Unique variants that are really tough to earn...

Warframe also has variants of existing weapons called "Prime" versions, that are very ornate. And while they have some trade-offs and aren't vastly different, they're coveted because they're difficult to build (You have to do specific missions for a chance at getting a part for them, or you buy it from another player), and often sell for high prices.

No, but as it happens I hadn't bought gloves for my Sunsinger build yet, and the particular stat boosts and perks I wound up with were PERFECT for it. I like the look of them, too.

Same here. This sort of structure could definitely be put to good use in the future. I would expect to see similar stuff in House of Wolves.
