I wonder if that UI could replace vault? (Destiny)

It would have been nice if, in game, you could just dip into another character's weapons and pick what you want.

Or maybe the weapons don't need to be listed against characters. After all, if you just want to pick a weapon why should you care which character "has" it?

As a UI to pick what weapons you want your current character to have equipped how about...

You have a revamped weapons vault that is available any time you are in orbit or in the tower. It is an options menu tab instead of a place in the tower.

You have a way of saying that you want to look at: primaries, secondaries or heavies.

Let's say that you have selected primaries.

Your currently selected, primary, weapon set should be displayed on the left in its fully open matrix state.

Like this:

[] [] [] []
[] [] []
[] [] []

To the right would be a matrix with all the weapons that you own that are not assigned to your current character. If you have primaries selected then the matrix contains only primaries.

Artist's impression

[] [] [] [] | [] [] [] []
[] [] [] | [] [] [] []
[] [] [] | [] [] [] []
            | [] [] [] []
            | [] [] [] []
            | [] [] [] []

Let's call the matrix on the left: The Assigned Weapons.

Let's call the matrix on the right: The Unassigned Weapons.

The cursor can scroll the unassigned weapons matrix vertically. The assigned weapons matrix stays unscrolled.

If you select a weapon in your assigned weapon matrix then it becomes unassigned and goes into the matrix on the right.

If you select a weapon on the unassigned matrix then it becomes assigned and occupies a free slot on your assigned weapon matrix (the matrix on the left).

This way you can quickly select: primaries, secondaries and heavies for your current character.

Do you see what I mean? What do you think?

PS - maybe all weapons should be on the matrix on the right, irrespective of their assigned state. Assigned weapons in the Unassigned Matrix would just be dim to signify that it can't be selected right now. If there are no free Assigned Weapon slots then all weapons in the Unassigned matrix would be dim.

My thinking is that if weapons don't come and go from the Unassigned matrix then they always stay in the same place and you could remember roughly where they live and can find them quicker.
