Silvered Hushwind in Iron Banner? Holy Crap (Destiny)

by Schedonnardus, Texas, Monday, December 22, 2014, 07:07 (3866 days ago)

I was playing IB with a friend last night, we were both level 31. There was a 27 on the other team with Silvered Hushwind, and he was destroying us. Usually by the time i saw him, i was already dead. Looked at the guy's legend, and its a blue auto rifle.

anyone use this gun? i thought it was pretty ridiculous at how fast a 27 was able to take down 31's with a blue weapon.

It has random perks, so it was probably a really good roll. Maybe Glass Half-Full and Field Scout?

A lot of times I see high quality crucible players use blue AR's. Some of them just have insane impact/stability for their ROF.

The best guy I ever played against in a random game was using a green SR that fired about as fast as an AR. No idea how he pulled that off but he finished with about 40 kills and a 13 k/d. Hacks.

I loved how viable white/green weapons would be in Crucible even miles down the road.

I picked up a blue Hand Cannon the other day that has ridiculous impact (even higher than Devil You Know), and it reminded me of the Regulator MK.56 that I used to dominate Crucible with...

Not only that, but even the Khvostov is a solid Auto Rifle that I used almost exclusively in Crucible a couple of weeks ago when I made a Hunter.

Definitely nice to see high-stat low-tier weapons (a trade-off for their lack of perks) maintaining a relevant presence...

The fact that weapons from early in the game remain viable in PvP is one of the few reasons to get attached to your weapons. I have two warlocks, one outfitted for PvE and the other for PvP, so I can jump into whichever I feel like playing without needing to shuffle around a lot of gear. Guess which one is packing all the guns I've had since level 5?

I still have a white Sniper

Can't remember the name of it, but RoF is 2.5 shots per second. Never seen another one like it.

I have a Silvered Hushwind-D. The primary perk is focused fire which slows ROF when zoomed but does additional damage. I think this is one of the perks of Suros Regime.

So I have a baby Suros. :)

And it has a 32 round mag, which is decent size and great for the slower ROF.

The problem with the ROF mod for low impact rifles like the Hushwind is precisely that they have low impact and the increased damage is not enough to compensate for the reduced RoF. They will pretty much always be outperformed by a higher-rof low impact gun, or a low rof high impact gun like Shadow Price or Suros.

I was under the impression that the increased Impact precisely makes up for the lower RoF? Seems weird that Bungie would be so careful about ensuring all ARs have the same DpS and then mess that up with a "perk".

Course, I also assumed the Heavy Ammo perk wouldn't ruin my ability to use rockets. I should test this.
