Never much cared for Gold... *IMG/VID* (Destiny)

I've always favored Platinum a bit more...

This is the game that I got it in. I'm glad that it was actually a fun match rather than a bleh experience.

Thoughts...

  • I take back everything I said about the Voidfang Vestments. It's definitely a prime piece of gear for Voidwalkers. Can't deny the benefits of having Grenade energy ready to go at spawn. I somewhat regret not getting the upgrade.
  • I also take back everything that I said about the Axion Bolts. They must have received some buff at some point, because they're not only hilarious to use, but they can turn almost any situation in your favor if you're clever enough. And stacking that with the Voidfang's extra bolt? Lethal.
  • I'm glad that Salvage is back, and the DLC maps seem very well suited for it. I hope it's not just on the DLC maps, though. I do miss Mercury.
  • This is the first game that I've ever Platinum'd. Ever. In the history of Playstation Trophies. And I'm glad it was a Bungie game... Had you told me back in '08 that the first game I'd Platinum would be from Bungie...

It's actually pretty handy for sunsingers too, in conjunction with gift of the sun. Double grenades on respawn is just mean.

Vortex Mastery / Annihilate / Axion Bolt is always really wicked with Voidfang. Those bolts travel forever...and three is just unfair.

Also...bad, bad man. Mark Jackson is proud of you.

How do you earn a Platinum trophy? Forgive me, I am naive in the ways of PS.

I think you mean the "Postmortem Grenade"

I had started calling the Axion Bolt the Postmortem Grenade a couple months ago. I love the grenade and it's all I ever used. Just last week I looked at DestinyTracker and was moderately surprised to find out what my top medal was:

I usually use it from afar to soften up the enemy before I jump in, or retreat way early and toss in the grenade to clean up. The trouble is that it will never kill on its own, so it's not useful as a traditional Halo-style grenade (I loved me some stickies). Once thrown, you have to engage to get any benefit from it. It doesn't matter how good the throw is if the enemy just turns and runs to recoup their shield.

It's all about skill balance with grenades

Most grenades don't one shot in destiny, and I think that's by design. Any of the ones that target-acquire based on proximity (firebolt, arcbolt, axion bolt) don't typically one shot, whereas sticky grenades like the fusion grenade usually do...that said, you need line of sight with the one shots, and they're really only useful in straight up fights. You also have to have pretty good aim with the one shots, because you'll probably die if you miss.

I've gotten double-downs in Control on Firebase Delphi by just chucking an axion bolt through the top of B while the other team is capping/engaging my team there. They're supplementary grenades that really excel when thrown in support of team-mates or when your opponent is distracted. They're pretty sneaky, and the best time to use them is when they won't be seen and aren't expected. You also don't need good aim.
