Attention. Pure and simple. Whether they admit it or not, the root reason is attention.
Kids who were never taught how to apply their energy and creativity to constructive ends, and weren't given enough positive attention for good behavior, will always find a way to get attention regardless of the source or reason.

Internet is nuts today. PSN and XBL still having issues. People are posting snazzy-looking ipviking screenshots. Lizard Squad seems to have launched an attack on Tor.
