A handy-ish tip for Crota's End's end (spoilers) (Destiny)

Finally! Finally managed to play and beat the new raid; thanks everyone who suffered my low-ish level with reasonable grace and good humour. :) I wasn't a total drag on the team, though, because I was the "Oversoul's Bane" of the team due to a nifty quirk.

When you shoot the Oversoul the game doesn't seem to register hits against a model... as far as the weapon is concerned, you're spraying the air with lead. Some weapons have a perk that returns missed shots to the magazine; my favourite Exotic heavy, Super Good Advice, returns almost all such misses when the perk's unlocked. So when the Oversoul spawned I'd pull out SGA, blaze away, and when the Oversoul despawned from the damage I'd only be down a dozen or so rounds on the belt. (Be advised one SGA alone probably isn't enough to derez it in time to save the team, so it's not a cheap avenue to victory.)

Dunno how useful a tip this is, but thought I'd share in case someone finds it handy.

-- Steve had a blast on the raid, even during the frustrating bits.

Nice! Hadn't occurred to me to try that on the Oversoul, but I have noticed the effect on other things. For example, I noticed just a couple days ago* that I could melee the Vex portals to damage and close them, and it would definitely use the charged melee (it only took me 2 hits to kill the portal), but the charge wouldn't disappear.

* Maybe I've been playing too long to have only just noticed that, but I never thought that punching the portals might be an effective way to get rid of them.

This works on Oracles in the Vault of Glass as well. If you don't have Corrective Measure with Field scout, this is the other way to never run out of ammo while killing Oracles.

Sad that I had to miss out on the finish, but She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed required my presence. Should I still have the checkpoint for the Crota battle? Does it disappear at any time? You know, in case I want to solo...HAHAHAHAHA!

I think you have it until tomorrow. Good luck!

Thanks to you, Anton P Nym, breitzen, DiscipleN2K, INSANEDrive, and especially Zero (Point Fox), who was the most excellent swordsman during our (gasp!) eight-hour run.

It was an honor serving with you all. I was near the point of giving up there near the end, but we made it, and it was exhilarating!

Zero is indeed a great help. Saturday night we were having a little difficulty with the VoG hard mode. After cutting loose the anchor of the drunken rowboat captain who was sailing us off course, we breezed through the rest with Zero at the helm.
