I hope destiny doesn't turn out like the matrix…

I've been reading all the grimoire cards, and little hints like that are dropped everywhere:

1. A card in which researchers discover they are actually inside a Vex Simulation.
2. Gorgons, the Templar, and the oracles being able to shape reality in the Vault. Mentions of the Vex seeking to squirm their way into the fabric of the universe's calculations
3. Suggestions that the darkness is a powerful force that has figured out how to bend the simulation, creating acausal events. These type of events were seen right as the darkness arrived as documented in another card.

This seems to imply that the darkness is using the Vex via the black heart for computing power in order to gain control of or manipulate the universe. What the traveler is I don't know.

That would be… weird if true. Guess we will find out in 10 years or less.

The Traveler is a SysAdmin, asleep at the keyboard after staying up all night fighting off a DDoS attack. :P

Have you by chance read "Mogworld"? It's got a similar premise to what you're describing.

That would byte

I read it more as bending the rules of reality; that doesn't, to me, imply that it's necessarily a simulation.

The one that was definitively a simulation was just a very good model of the reality outside of it; that doesn't mean it has to be turtles I mean simulations all the way down up.
