Hey, I'd just like to thank everyone who joined Slycrel & I on that Crota attempt last night, Pyro, Vortech, ashes2ashes & CruelLegacy. I had a ton of fun even if we didn't kill Crota. Special thanks go out to CruelLegacy for taking the time to explain the mechanics of it.

You'll see that I was in there 3 times, that's because I checked the first chest with each of my characters & got a .... Hawk Moon!!!! I was extra super excited about that after reading about Korny's awesome luck & wishing for the same.

Thanks for inviting me in! I had a great time. Fun getting to run the sword for a bit, too. I'd never done that before lol

Glad you enjoyed it, I think you did pretty well with it! It looked like one would need to have a good idea of how long before crota stands back up. I don't like pressure of being the "QB"/relic-holder for the team, unless they're people I know IRL, then I don't feel so bad when I fail. :)
Here's some general ponderings I've had since last night:
1a- I could be mistaken in this observation, it could be a bug, it could just be lag, but!, It seemed that as we were taking down crota's shield for the 2nd time that it would quickly begin to regenerate if we didn't keep constant damage on him (due to people reloading, etc).
1b- That Gjallarhorns & the like did really well taking the shield down because of the secondary hits they get, where as a lull in single rockets might give the shield a chance to regenerate.
This is why I suggested we try adding your Gjallerhorn (that I assume you had). Hmm, I wonder if Dragon's Breath's solar flare would be enough to prevent his shield from regenerating. I wish I had a Gjallarhorn, guess it's time to focus on upgrading my Dragon's Breath to see how it does!
1c- Has anyone noticed how quickly Crota's shield will regenerate if you don't get it all the way down?
2- I was also thinking about the question I asked, "what sword attack should the sword bearer use?" I did some googling & came across this interesting post on reddit: Analysis Crotas End Final Boss Damage Calculations. I would like to know how long those different attack combos take & how long crota is vulnerable.

My understanding is that his shields do regenerate quite quickly if there is any break in the sustained fire. Gjallarhorn is indeed the best tool for dropping his shields, thanks to the secondary hits. Not only that, but Gjallarhorn makes it easier for the sword carrier to get the timing right because of how quickly he goes down. With other weapons, it takes longer to bring down his shield which creates more margin for error.
I was using Hunger of Crota. Not quite as good as Gjallarhorn, but it seems to be the next best thing. I was using Icebreaker as well, so that was taking up my exotic slot.

Ah, yes, Icebreaker. That was one weapon that I wasn't in a position to grind for the SC to acquire & I REALLY REALLY wish I had been able to. Icebreaker & Gjallerhorn are the two exotics that I don't have but I want. Really, I shouldn't desire/want/lust-after/grass-is-greener/etc other exotics that I don't posses when I have my shiny new HawkMoon to play with. :)

Not to rub salt in your wound, but Icebreaker is the 1 gun in my arsenal that truly changes the way I play the game. I bought it from Xur the first time he sold it, just barely. I didn't have enough coins, so I played like crazy all night on the Saturday, well into Sunday morning. I got the final coin I needed from a legendary engram with about 10 minutes to spare before Xur left for the week! Since then, I've been lucky enough to earn 2 more, so I have one for each of my characters.
You'll get it one of these days, and it'll be worth the wait :)
PS
Totally jealous of your Hawkmoon. That is a beautiful gun :D

I was using Song of Ir Yût (the Crota's End heavy machine gun) for our run last night and it seemed to be doing pretty well. The large clip provides a steady stream of damage over several seconds without needing a reload.

Yeah, I had swapped to one of my MG (Corrective Measure perhaps?) & it seemed to do well for me & I could quickly turn it on the knights w/o (hopefully) using a full rocket's worth of ammo on them.

I enjoyed the journey even though we could not bring him down, and that's saying something.

Point was "dot", and Dance was "dash", I imagine... Funny trying to imagine him conveying info during gameplay...

You missed a very special occasion... I was able to use my mic for once ;)
Although I love the idea of someone attempting to explain Crota's End using nothing but pointing and dancing. It'd be like "Destiny Charades for Idiots" lol

I had an awesome time too! Great way to unwind after an awful day at work. Though I was pretty sad to not have anything waiting for me at the Postmaster after the game.
When are we going to pick up our checkpoint and try again? ;)
I had my Gjallarhorn 2.0 with me, but I always seemed to be low on ammo or reloading (burned through my few synths). I need to get that thing upgraded back up as well.
I want Icebreaker so badly. I wasn't in the position to purchase one at the time when they were available. Killed me inside a little bit, and continues to sting everytime I "need" one since.
I still feel badly under gear'd. I want some new legendary weapons and could use Vault of Glass or Crota's End armor. I hastily went from stuck at 29 directly to 31 in the matter of a few hours by upgrading my helmet to 2.0 via Xûr and turning in the Urn bounty to him. Then purchasing the remaining armor from the Vanguard. Sharded out my existing inventory to upgrade the new.

I'm not sure, I plan to be on tonight, but I don't have any specific plans other than to try the weekly stuff with Slycrel. Friday nights are date night with my wife, so they're usually out, but pretty much any other evening after the kids are in bed (8:30-9:00 MST) works for me.
