by Schedonnardus, Texas, Tuesday, January 27, 2015, 06:37 (3833 days ago)
so, team DBO (Xbone) made it to Crota on wednesday night in an hr or so, and then proceeded to spend about 15 hrs over the rest of the week on Crota without beating him. Last night we got him down to a sliver about 4 times, and every time he wouldn't kneel even though his shield was gone (hit with 4+ gjllarhorns and other rockets/weapons).
90% of our wipes had to do with Crota not dropping, getting up too early, or the swordbearer running away.
looks like i'm gonna stick with running through ir yut until the level cap raises again. :(

okay, we have to try this strategy!

the team spends most their time under the boomer towers. the gatekeeper will come to you. you then attack crota when he is on the sides, rather than the center. probably need at least two titan bubbles.

I can lend you fine folks a couple of my Gjallarhorns, if you want...
You know what fixes the Heavy ammo bug? Ruin Wings for the Titan. Instead of more ammo in reserve, you get more ammo drops, and more ammo per pickup. If your group has anyone with them, they can make things MUCH less frustrating...

yeah about those Ruin Wings...

I need to do some more testing to make sure I'm not paranoid, but I swear they are bugged.
It seems like when I wear them with a couple of specific armor pieces I have, the perk does NOT work, at all.
Seems to depend on what leg and\or chest I am wearing. If I equip my VoG boots, no heavy ammo seems to drop, EVER, but if I take them off, the next kills I'm suddenly swimming in heavy ammo.
I'm wondering if it doesn't play well with chests and legs that give you heavy ammo boosts....

My friend swears these are bugged also.

It also seems to negatively impact my acquisition of special ammo as well.
I had them on and it would not spawn anything except regular white ammo. I took them off, made a few kills and then I was swimming in green ammo again (heavy ammo also showed up at what I would call the normal rate).
Now it is bugging me. I need to try out some different combinations and see what happens.
It could all be in my head, but I swear they do not work as advertised.

I didn't seriously test them, but I was generally not impressed with Ruin Wings. Never wore them with armor that boosted heavy ammo, so can't speak to that.
I currently run the Arma with either a HMG or Rocket Launcher with Surplus. Works wayyy better than the Wings ever did.

Pretty sure it's all in your head. They've always worked just fine for me. They increase the chances of a heavy ammo drop by 20%, and you pick up 4-5 rockets per Heavy. Always works.

That's odd. They work so well that I rarely take them off. I think the problem is what people "think" that they're supposed to do, versus what they actually do. Using them with a Gjallarhorn, I feel free to spam rockets endlessly. Combining that with the Defender Orb perk and the Gjallarhorn's Wolf pack, I was making tons of orbs (and more Heavy ammo packs) nonstop. Infinite ammo!

Aside from the extra grenade, Armamentarium has an identical Heavy perk that the Raid boots have, and it doesn't stack. So if you wear raid boots, unless the extra grenade is super important to you, you're not getting much out of it...

I ran several strikes in the ROC playlist doing exactly this and had the complete opposite experience- I would max out my ghorn's capacity, shoot off the rounds into mobs of enemies or the boss, and get nothing in return. I'd then go to town with a shotgun, mow down a bunch of enemies, and nothing. Not even special ammo. Took them off and traded for Arma, bam, swimming in ammo again.
I don't doubt your claims, but if the rate is really only 20%, well, fuck all that then, because that's not really "exotic" IMO. If I'm going to wear that armor in a boss fight, I'm doing it because I need the ammo, and don't want to blow through a synth.

There are times I wish it did stack, even with the ammo glitch. I would just equip Corrective measure, and hold right trigger until I win.
And since you brought it up, I wear Arma 75% of the time on my main build and that extra stun grenade is sooper important. Since the VoG boots are already out classed by vanguard gear anyway, there isn't a use for them outside of crucible. As such, I wear Arma and boots that give me more scout rifle ammo, and someday, RNG-Satan willing, hand cannon ammo for a hawkmoon.

Not just 20%. It also increases the ammo per pickup.
Without Heavy ammo perk: 1 Purple Ammo = 1 Rocket.
With Heavy Ammo Perk: 1 Purple Ammo = 2 Rockets.
With Ruin Wings: 1 Purple Ammo = 4-5 Rockets.
Five Gjallarhorn shots per purple when every enemy has a 20% higher chance of dropping a purple?
That's not just exotic, that's borderline game-breaking. And don't even get me started on Machine Guns. We're talking well over a hundred rounds per Heavy... Heck, I'll show ya in a bit...

Ruin Wings work in Crucible too, pickup-wise. I was destroying in Combined Arms. I had pure Rocket sprees. Also saved a clip. I'll show ya...

You don't need extra ammo for Hawkmoon, friend. Everything's dead before you're halfway empty...

I know it gives more PER pickup, and for what it's worth, when they do drop and I'm wearing them, the quantity is increased. Though I'm not getting +4 and +5, it's always +3 for rockets. HMG ammo I don't really watch as closely to notice.
Watching your video, it still doesn't seem to pop up as frequently as I would expect it to, though you do get more drops than I get.
I'll see if I can get my youtube account linked up to PSN and run some trials myself.
I'm totally fine if it's all in my head, an incorrect perception, but damnit if it doesn't feel random. There are two configurations I run it with and it almost ALWAYS does poorly on one compared to the other.

Use game mechanics against the glitch

You know how if you run out of ammo the game will give you more after about 30 seconds? Well, it's even better if you have icebreaker equipped...
1. Equip Ice Breaker.
2. Deplete all primary and heavy ammo
3. Watch every enemy you and your team kill drop heavy ammo
Thanks to redditt for pointing out this is easy to do before every Crota run. Just shoot away all your ammo just before hugging the crystal. Then icebreaker everything and watch all the purple fall.

;_; RIP Heavy Ammo Synths. So many Synths for nothing. ;_;

I ran it with another crew last night and I'm confident that XBO DBO will do it soon (edit: DBO PS4 already did it a few times). The ledge method is fairly easy (which we knew). Key is to take sword bearer down fast (we knew this also). 6 swings per sword and 3 swords will do it. Get a 4th swing in early and you're ahead! No need to go for triple down!! Hiding in the lower right ogre room is the piece we were missing. We can do it this week no problem, trust me!
PS I was running it with my alt and didn't have my usual primary. I found fatebringer with explosive rounds to do nicely on Crota's shields because it pops a couple times on him. Anyone else noticed this and can quantify it better??
PPS No we can't all shoot fatebringers. Shoot rockets if you got em!

Actually, we eventually used ogre room to great effect. I would have to say amongst everything we went against, the most infuriating thing was the swordbearer ignoring our rounds to stagger it & playing chicken in an ogre room.

yep. judging by the vid i posted, staying in an ogre room may draw the sword bearer to you, so that's a plus.

Getting to/from the ogre room is dangerous though. Ledge is safe and if everyone is there fast the swordbearer doesn't get aggro to the sides.

yeah, just need to keep track of the number of his required to enrage him. you need to hit enrage on the 1st kneeling of a new sword, so that you can get a 2nd kneeling in. if you enrage him on the 2nd kneeling, your outta luck.

Which is exactly why I planned on swapping out the bumper combo for the right trigger swings. Way easier to keep track of.
