Check my profile (same name) for proof :( . I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I had the gloves from before, but bought the 36 boots and shotgun. It's the first time I've ever done it.
Something that was really weird that never happened to me before is that it wouldn't let me go to the tower. It kept saying 'you have not completed the necessary mission' (or something to that effect). I was able to get in joining a friend already there, and my rank wasn't reset.
There were people on Reddit that said it didn't work for them last time either. There must be some precise detail we're not aware of.
