I ran Atheon HM CP just now and got screwed.. After about an hour of explaining and attempts we finally got him. And it drops.... an ICEBREAKER!!!!!!!!
Right after I just bought 2 this past week. Talk about discouragement.

That's why you only buy one. After purchasing an Exotic from Xur, you seriously have up to 55% chance of earning another one from a qualifying roll. It's happened to me countless times.

Nah, you go ahead and buy all you want from him. Just don't buy the accompanying exotic shards for the last-tier upgrade. You can dismantle your dropped Icebreakers to get those. ;)

For some sad reason, it's almost always the guy with the least kills, or the guy who JUST joins, or the guy who messes up the most, or in some cases the guy who does nothing...and reaps the biggest rewards.

It would encourage people to lvl up alternate exotics, and if it worked in Raids (probably not) it would allow people that are at a wall to actually complete Crota on Hard. Just an idea.

I have Suros Regime, Invective, and Truth; kinda quailing at the idea of meeting others clanking around the Crucible with similar arsenals.

Rate of fire (too fast actually), horrible recoil (stare at the ceiling bad), and low clip size make it tougher to handle than Found Verdict which also fires in auto (not that I ever use it that way). I don't know how many times I've accidentally fired two shots with Invective to then die because now I'm looking straight up in the air and am SOL.

The boost to reload speed helped quite a bit. And yeah, works real well with No Backups or Ruin Wings.

Armor would go Skull of Dire Ahamkara, claws of ahamkara, voidfang, and some boots with intellect maxed.
Weapons would go Juju, Pocket Infinity, Truth. Trade in Thorn for Juju on sniper friendly maps.
Turn on annihilate, soul rip and embrace the void. Throw a lot of nova bombs.

7?!? I only got 2 last week. (though this week was better)
Because all I got from Nightfall the previous 3 weeks was legendary engrams of terrible weapons. That's 16 shards or energy from 8 Nightfall runs.
Fortunately, this week, I finally got a Monte Carlo! It's no Gjallerhorn (or Hawkmoon), but it's an exotic I didn't have yet, and that makes me happy.

I heard of alot of people getting ascendant energy. They need to add Radiant Energy/shards to the mix. That would be a much more welcome and beneficial drop.

Not disputing that it would be cool to get radiant materials from Nightfall, but that goes directly contrary to the design philosophy of having raid gear (and hence the unique material needed for raid gear) to only be available to those who invest their time in the raid.

The ascendant materials were (and still are) for all legendary gear (except for Crota's End raid gear of course). Bungie's stated purpose in introducing radiant materials this time was because they were finding that a lot of players were holding off on upgrading their normal (non-VoG) armor because they didn't want to spend their ascendant shards on the non-raid gear. But that was causing people to stay level 26/27 for a long time instead of spending the shards to level up to 28/29, making it harder for them to run VoG and have chances at that gear. Bungie wanted to encourage players to go ahead and spend their ascendant shards on the vanguard legendary armor instead of hoarding them for if/when they got raid gear, so they introduced radiant shards as the exclusive upgrade material for (new) raid gear.
However, to some extent at least, this will probably be moot going forward since Luke Smith said recently that "mistakes were made" with The Dark Below and specifically mentioned the way they implemented radiant materials as one of the mistakes they recognize and will not repeat.
