Did anybody save the crota kill last night? (Destiny)

by Cody Miller @, Music of the Spheres - Never Forgot, Friday, March 20, 2015, 15:52 (3784 days ago)

Raiding with Kermit's crew.

One more down to kill Crota. Someone fires their rocket early. Oh no! We all fire our rockets but it's too late and he regenerated. But he's so close… so everybody just keeps shooting him with their primaries since we are all out of rockets. Slowly, his shield goes down. I feel like it took a million years, but it did. Pop. Pop. Pop. SO… CLOSE… I don't know how he didn't kill the sword carrier, but he knelt and was finished off right as the sword disappeared.

You guys are nuts you know that? Never seen anything like that.

Raiding with the deeply flawed is more fun than the flawless group.

The flawless group is efficient, but too much so.

You're not taking into account all the DEEPLY flawed runs that lead up to the flawless one. Believe me, we have our share of adventures ;)

Oh I'm sure!

But since you brought it up...

the difference in playing with you guys is that it is so mechanical at it's apex. Once you've figured out the "optimal" way to do something, it rarely changes. In.killed.rewards.speedracers-tears.done.orbit.

With the other groups I've raided with it's much more organic.

(Rhetorically asking) When was the last time on VoG hard mode that we all stayed out and tried to fight the legions, or didn't all camp on the ledge with snipers during oracles? Just stuff like that. I'm not saying that it should never be done that way (sometimes you just want to run the vault for stuff as quickly as possible) it's just also sometimes nice to do things the long way. Last time I ran I tried desperately to stop the templar from teleporting and while I failed spectacularly at it, it made me want to try it again but not on my own. Maybe use the relic shield to block 'im!

Eh.

I ALWAYS like to do that stuff. Raiding with people here is great because you can do that kind of thing. With pick up groups, it's like, yeah we just want the gear, let's cheese this.

That's so lame.

I never raid with LFGers anymore, for that exact reason. It's so frustrating.

We do stuff like that a lot, more recently at least. I'm 100% with you in that mixing things up and improvising can be a lot more fun that playing by the numbers every time.

I actually think the reason we don't goof around a bit more often is because we start so late at night. We're usually so tired that it becomes "crap, it's 3am... let's just get this done". :)

On the other hand, there is a very different kind of thrill I get from being part of a team that is really firing on all cylinders. I like the feeling of empowerment you all get as a group when you burn through a raid in record time, or pull off a flawless run. It's fun too, just in a very different way :)

I bet. I also bet I'll never experience that, but I can imagine.

Especially for Crota. The regulars on the Tuesday Xbox One raid nights can run Crota stupid fast, and we usually do. We are still in a large way just screwing around through the Abyss and bridge, but get a little serious around Ir Yût, then often just absolutely fall apart on Crota and do a 2 ogre round 9 death travesty of a Crota run, just having fun, but still finish with no wipes in 35 minutes. That's fun as heck!

Hard mode ain't no joke though. I'd much rather flawless style that than deeply flawed.

That's the main reason I think Normal Crota is so much better/more fun than hard mode: you can improvise and experiment. On Hard mode there is no room or time for anything other than total perfection.

One of my biggest beefs with the Crota fight is how long it takes to get going again after each wipe. That sequence is cool the first few times, but the checkpoint should really be just before the Shields go down.

If only there was an animation where we could hold up lighters that would complete the Iron Maiden pre-concert vibe.

Next time we run VoG I'd love to try and stop the teleport. Im not sure I can do it, but that video made it look easy.

Thanks so much for raiding with us :)

I didn't save but I do need to run this again this weekend, I am now only one piece of armor away from being able to hit 32.

We're flawed but fun!

I was so caught up in the heat of the moment I didn't even think to capture it.

As the swordshunter, that was super intense though. After the rocket barrage failed to down him I was getting ready to bail off the platform, but someone (Cody?) rallied everyone and kept everyone shooting. That last 1% of his shield took roughly a million years to drop (at least they did in my head. Probably half a second in reality) but when they did, man was it satisfying.

The sword disappeared almost the instant we finished him off. About as close as we could possibly cut it, but we did it :)

Ahaha yeah, it was definitely me. He was SO CLOSE I couldn't bear to see him not die at that point.

I did not, unfortunately. Someotherguy is our resident slightly-less-but-still-deeply-flawed raider, and he really pulled a rabbit out of the hat last night.

I was confused about how I ended up being in orbit by myself, and then realized I wasn't party lead, due to all our experimentation while fighting the lagmonster.

So glad you joined us, Cody. You're always welcome.
