Yeah.. (Destiny)

With my new schedule, I game on the weekends and have somewhat made it a point not to game during the week. So after Monday's post about getting tired of Destiny, I had a Destiny-free week, followed up with Crota Hard earlier this evening. I thought the break would let me come back refreshed.

The whole thing just left me meh. I had fun on the Abyss, the bridge feels kind've tedious now, fun again on the Deathsinger and then an hour wiping on Crota. I got nothing from the Raid because I already have everything, and the whole mindless weekly repetition just leaves me not wanting to do it again. The problem is that's Destiny's endgame. For PvE, there's nothing else to do.

Really need that House of Wolves.. I just don't know if I want to play Destiny at all until it comes out.

I've hardly played Destiny the past few weeks, and it's felt like the same bit of tediousness when I come back, because I'm playing other games that have content added regularly... But tonight, I played Bladedancer in Crucible for the first time ever (with the good people of DBO). The whole night, and forced myself to git gud with Felwinter's Lie at the same time... And I had a blast. I think if you force yourself to approach familiar events in a whole new way, they can be fresh and fun again.

Heck, Omnigul is my second-least favorite strike, but Sammy and I double-teamed it and did the final boss portion with a completely different strategy than before, and we had a great time (even if all I got was my sixth or seventh Ice Breaker...).

You should play with our crowd. I even enjoyed running Patrol missions with Revenant and Cleavage...

I am chomping at the bit waiting for HOW to drop. The tedium of patrols and the same public events are getting to me. I need something fresh! I tend to get all of my normal vanguard bounties out of the way as soon as I hop on so I can stock up on Crucible ones which I feel is the only thing right now offering any sort of variety because you never know what's going to happen.

Back when I started playing crucible and was still a travesty at it, something glitched out at the beginning of the game and left me solo against a full other team. I got spooked and bailed not wanting to get curb stomped repeatedly. Now I look back and just wish that I would have stayed in just to see what would have happened. Now I pray for it to happen again so I can wreck shop.

Thursday night strikes I look forward to not because of the strike but getting to play with friends, the same as Tuesday night's I look forward to because I know that everyone is on playing Nightfall's and running weeklies and chances are good of running multiple ones with multiple friends and maybe all getting into Crucible together afterwards.

I find myself playing less and less by myself in the evenings like I used to, but way more on night's that I know my friends list is going to be overflowing.

To me, even though the game is more fun than almost all other games, it's not why I've wasted so much of my time on it.

It's really more about having experiences with friends while playing. During hard mode Crota, people get a little stressed doing it right because we want to get it done before next year. But, during Bluerunner's Atheon run right after, we had quite a bit of fun! Exploring some new jumping puzzle things, trying some teleport blocking, doing the oracles legit, shotgunning the gatekeeper and meleeing the templar, etc.

Then we went into crucible, which I don't like alone. In fact, there was a game we were getting absolutely demolished on, and while one or two of us were getting frustrated, I feel like the rest of us were having fun. One of the guys we played had played for 1900 hours. Anyway, it was a lot of amazement at how good those dudes were and laughing. At least on my end.

There was nothing objectively amusing or fun about it, it was mostly a time sink, but it was a positive experience, because I wasn't depending on the game to give me fun, I made sure to make my own fun with the game as a medium.

If you're not having fun anymore, you probably should take a break. But to me, as long as I have stupid ideas and people willing to humour me while doing them, I'm going to have fun.

Funkman beat me to it, but I was going to say that I usually feel somewhat burned out and "meh" after a hard mode Crota run. The only thing that takes the edge off is if I get a piece of gear I'm excited about (which is rare these days, since I have almost everything).

Not that I disagree with you; Destiny is in dire need of new content. I'm happy about all the "quality of life" improvements that have been or will be added between expansion 1 and 2, but those alone are not enough to keep our enthusiasm up.

I know we can't expect susbstantial new content before the expansion, but I do think there are some changes Bungie could make to help us have more fun with the game. At this point, I think the Bounty system is beginning to have a real negative effect on my day-to-day routine with Destiny. I like having something goal-oriented to focus on, so I'm taking the time between expansions to work on upgrading my vault-full of exotics. Bounties are all but required to do this. I enjoy bounties like "get 100 precision kills" or "get 9000 XP without dying" because I can complete them doing any PvE activity I choose. But I find too many of the bounties each day require completing a specific story mission. Making things worse; there are only a few missions with bounties offered, and they repeat all the damn time. I feel like I'm running The Archive every other day because the bounty keeps coming up. Some bounties, like "Kill 7 Hive at once with Fist of Havok" are almost as bad, because there are relatively few opportunities to pull it off. Once you find a mission that lets you accomplish this goal, you end up repeating it every time the bounty is available.

Bounties in Destiny are fast becoming a list of chores I need to complete before i can go and have fun. I'd like to see Bungie add more "open ended" bounties that are not tied to specific missions so we can spend more time doing the stuff we actually want to do in Destiny.

Aside from that, a few other minor changes that would make a world of difference:

* Bounties should pay out Glimmer as well as rep & XP.
* Raids should count towards bounties. All glimmer-boosting items should work during raids and all portions of the strikes.
* Faction Vendors should offer bounties that can be run simultaneously with Vanguard bounties. The Iron Banner is great for upgrading gear because you can complete Crucible & IB bounties at the same time. This should be expanded out to the other vendors.
* Xur should offer 1 exotic bounty each week, with a specific known weapon given as a reward for completion. And not just 1 of the 5 exotic bounties already available... There should be a bounty for every single exotic weapon. If you don't complete the bounty by Xur's next visit to the tower, you fail and miss your chance.

I would love to see a complete other tier of bounties that are raid specific. Like some that teams can earn by working together and some you can earn by just raiding with a group and working twords them by doing multiple raids.

Destiny is, to quote Bungie "Best served with friends", unfortunately, most of my friends don't play video games anymore, and the online ones don't play Destiny.

I've never done a raid or leveled up enough so I could, just cruising lone wolf way as I usually prefer anyway, not a lot of time if at all for gaming plus hours behind in Hawaii, hard to coordinate stuff.
People put a tremendous amount of effort in getting fireteams going, and it seems to be very rewarding. Just a little intimidating when by now everyone is level 30+ lol.

I try to have fun my own way, but I'm pretty sure that's not how the game was meant to be played ;)

Really need that House of Wolves.. I just don't know if I want to play Destiny at all until it comes out.

Do you really think that House of Wolves is going to be any better than Dark Below? All available information points to the same number of story missions, strikes, and raids. Bungie is in a bind, because that's not a whole lot to do, and people have been complaining about their poor decisions (Commendations, exotic upgrading) designed to pad the expansion with busy work to do rather than actual content.

If they fix those stupid decisions, then we can bust through the content quickly. I have no problem with that, but I know Bungie would. If they don't, they lose a lot of people. There was a reddit thread about "deal breakers" for HoW, and the number one thing mentioned was upgrading exotics again.

While I do not see the actual content being any more significant, I am holding out hope that they are at least going to have a bunch of mini missions like the later Eris quest lines. What else are they doing all this time? I am sure the raid will be worth the price of admission.

The real fun is going to start with Destiny 2 I think.

I've said this before, but I think the quality of the HoW content will go a long way towards determining how "substantial" it feels. That, and how they are rolled in with existing content. I liked the 3 story missions in TDB. I think they're a step up from most of the original story missions. But they've been forced down our throats repeatedly since the expansion launched (every other daily heroic, every other nightfall/weekly heroic). It's too much for any new content to bare.

So if the new content is good, AND Bungie doesn't burn us out on it with too many repeated daily/weekly missions, then it should feel like a substantial improvement over TDB.

Another point I've made before, but I'm hoping the new weapons and armor coming with HoW are more desirable. The Dark Below gear is largely mediocre at best.

Burned out of PvE as well, but PvP with DBO is still a blast

(Bold in quote is my edit.)

Yet on the flip side - I want them to use every moment they can (which in this case would mean a release date in June). I don't expect that to happen unless its what they intended internally all along. The current beat of Thursday updates, if you go off a pattern suggests late April/Early May.

House of Wolves needs staying power and serious polish in the lasting fun depatment. Raids are awesome - but they can't be the only thing that makes the game worth playing. (That's me agreeing with you Pete)

TL;DR? - We need a Forge mode. ;D
