  • Literal darkness descends - reducing visibility and effective range of all weapons so players need closer engagement ranges. - A lot of 'hang back and snipe' happens. Shotguns are pretty good now, but players need a reason to to break out of their comfort zones. - Variations:
    • progressively over time
    • Proximity to end of level/boss
    • It is 'pushed back' by super use/orb generation

  • Mismatched damage type penalty of 2/3rds - Using an Arc machine gun against a Solar shield would do only 1/3rd the damage. Negates any benefit from a 'Burn' skull. Three skulls possible, one for each Shield/Damage type. - Sometimes feels like 'burn' just means 'use this on everything' or I fall back to GameBreaker too often. Might make it more interesting.

  • 1/2 shield delay for enemies - so players need to coordinate/work together to take down bigger foes or be really on their game. - I actually kinda like the 'kill target' public events with the Fallen Captains who have ridiculously quickly recharging shields. You have to think more tactically in order to get their shields down, keep them down, and kill them. Sometimes I get really close and lock them in an infinite melee dance to keep their shields down while my allies deal the real damage.

Dreg Birthday Party.

All I hear on the Vault of Glass is nonstop whining about needing a cleanse mere milliseconds after being infected. And you want that every time we enter a Darkness Zone? What about when someone has to go AFK? So when we run out of light on our screens, we just drop our snipers and try to kill the Goliath Tank or a dozen Nightfall Hobgoblins charging in with our shotguns. Sure.

That's already on there.

It doesn't really work like that. Most enemies actually can recharge their shields before your next melee. The game smartens up like that.

That's a screen-space effect. I mean an in-world effect - like a black mist. Getting thicker and thicker down to a certain minimum.

What about when someone has to go AFK?

C'est pas une problème. If an area is cleared of enemies, that could lift the darkness zone. Players could backtrack, or wait to enter the next Darkness Zone. Or just be good enough to do it without one of their fireteam.

So when we run out of light on our screens, we just drop our snipers and try to kill the Goliath Tank or a dozen Nightfall Hobgoblins charging in with our shotguns. Sure.

Sure! Why not!? What's the worst that could happen? You die? We've all been dead before. ;)

Not quite what I mean.
Currently: Arc on Arc 300 - Solar on Arc 100 - Solar Burn on Arc 300
I mean: Solar on Arc 33 - Solar Burn on Arc 100

Most enemies actually can recharge their shields before your next melee.

Example?

Uh-huh. I'll make sure I'm there when that happens on Nightfall.

Example?

Off the top of my head, the Captain in Forgotten Shore seems to regen his shields almost too quickly. I remember losing an event to him because of shield regeneration too fast. Also, that Wizard on the Hellmouth is a bitch to kill. I pretty much have to use SUROS, a fast-reloading fusion rifle, and a machine gun, with a grenade between each reload--and even then, she still sometimes does it. Honestly, I've become much better at Target Elimination, but most of the time if there's no one there with me, I just pass it up.

I like pubic events that are too hard for just me. It makes them worth their while. And yes, that Wizard is dang tough! :)
