Upgrade packages (Destiny)

by Oholiab @, Tuesday, April 28, 2015, 03:56 (3742 days ago)

I've got a Dead Orbit package at the Postmaster. I've heard rumors of people saving these to open after HoW is released. Is there an advantage to doing so?

Avatar

No. Contents of packages are set when earned.

Cryptarch packages (and found engrams) you CAN save however as the engrams roll when you decrypt them, that way you can hold as many as will fit in the postmaster instead of taking up inventory space. I actually have a legendary primary engram saved just for the heck of it. You can also save up Public Event packages to put towards new HoW weapons if you wish, though not as big of a deal.

Don't you get more rep when you open a package? I know you do with the cryptarch, but I've never worn a faction item until this week (so haven't received a faction package).

If so, you can save a bunch of them so you can rank up after HoW and get HoW packages.

i could be wrong, but I think for faction packages you only get reputation. If anyone wants to test it they can confirm or deny.

Plus you can get shaders, ascendant materials, little banner things, guns, and armor. The shaders are exceedingly rare, though.

Dead orbit has some cool shaders.

Seriously.... it's the last Dead Orbit shader I need. I have Revenant x2, The Nowhere, The Hanged Man and even the Fermi Solution. Yet, Bittersteel has made me bitter. Rank 35 on my warlock and 19 on my Hunter.

If you got Fermi Solution, you aren't allowed to complain :P

Rank 21, 13, and 10, not a single shader.

I appreciate the answer, but we were wondering if they also give you experience :)

I really want to say yes they do give XP. I've made it a point to always equip gear and weapons before opening any sort of rank-based packages.
