My only concern for the past couple months has been to have enough coins to buy a pair of Gjallarhorns if Xur ever happens to sell it again. If I had more than 50-60 coins in the vault, I wouldn't bother running the weekly strikes unless some friends were doing it.
Now that HoW is around the corner, I'm sure there will be a few more buy-worthy items in the near future, so it doesn't hurt to save up a bit.
