Faction gear query.... (Destiny)

A few Youtubers are posting rundowns of all the new HoW faction gear, and it struck me: THEY'RE ALL IDENTICAL. Seriously, am I just noticing this? I guess I haven't poked around the different factions since I only rep DO and only on my Hunter, but I seem to remember the models being at least a little different. But it looks like the all the facton gear (and at least the Hunter capes) 3D models are the same, just with different textures.

And specifically, those Hunter masks... ::headdesk::

Yeah it's been like this since the game shipped, and it's not just faction gear, everything is basically based off of a master model of the particular item in question.

A lot of things in Destiny just looks like a form of Lego, like it is a kit.

Take ships for example- ignoring colors, many of them are similar, except for incredibly minor details. Maybe an extra antenna here, additional thruster in the back, different nose cone.

Ever look closely at a Titan helmet? The majority of them are exactly the same from behind, and the bottom lip, but with slightly different details on the face places. Kinda like changing the face plates on older xbox 360s!

Shit, if you look at the Crota expansion items, most of it looks like they took a basic weapon model, and just clipped a bunch of hive texture on it. Add a skull here, place a spike there- done. It's now a "new" gun. One of the Crota raid ships looks like Aspect of glass but with hive bones glued on.

A lot of Destiny's stuff looks like that, actually.

(Before someone get's butthurt about it, Yes, I know there are a few different models of guns\ships\armor, what I'm saying though, is you can essentially strip away the bolted on details and greeblies and boil it down to 3-4 core models.)
