I had 25 exotic shards and 25,000 glimmer, so the first thing I did was ascend my Gjallarhorn, 3 Icebreakers, 3 Mythoclasts, and my Hawkmoon. I'm ascending a few pieces of exotic armor as well, but that doesn't make a huge difference unless you have upgraded legendary armor too. If you take a 32 character and ascend the exotic armor they're wearing, it'll only bump them to 32.5.
