What's the best way to farm weapon parts? (Destiny)

by MacAddictXIV @, Seattle WA, Tuesday, May 26, 2015, 13:04 (3707 days ago)

After all the reforging/upgrading that has been going on, I didn't realize that my weapon parts stockpile was plummeting. Any advice on how to renew my stockpile?

Look on other characters?

I always forget to do this; sometimes you may have a bunch on another character and not realize it. You may have looked, this is just a general tip for anyone short on weapon parts with multiple characters.

If you have a lot of glimmer, you could buy weapons from the gun smith and dismantle them.

I usually swim in green engrams on patrols though. I would say go patrol and vault most of the weapons you normally carry, that way you can carry more weapon engrams while running around.

(Because, if you had say, only one free special weapon slot, but there are two special weapon engrams on the ground, you'll only be able to pick up one of them, and if they aren't blue, they won't go to the post master.)

Yeah, I didn't know if it was best to farm glimmer, and then buy weapons to dismantle or if it was better to just kill things. And then what is the best venue for killing things? Patrol? I've also heard that running strikes can getting you a fair amount of junk to dismantle as well.

If they are green they automatically decrypt, so you can just dismantle them right away.

I'm also short on weapon parts. I had over 600 but burned through them in search of the perfect roll on several weapons. I managed to get some great rolls, but now it's slow going until I build up weapon parts.

As far as farming them, I guess wherever is the best loot cave would be a good spot. I haven't done that in a long time so I don't know where to go nowadays.

Not if your inventory is full.

It's a huge pain in the ass to walk over an engram and not be able to pick it up to auto-decode if the slots are already full. Or, having to open inventory literally every time you pick up one to dismantle it, if it is not blue, so you can pick up another one.

Better to have at LEAST two slots empty.

Skywatch is good, but so are the ember caves and citadel at Venus. Like pete mentioned, the chest glitch will net you lots of engrams (and maybe even keys, so that's good)

So the best place for Wolves is bouncing between Ember caves and the Citadel? I need more keys too :-)

For me it was. Nothing against Pete or the people that do it at skywatch, but I got more chests per hour on Venus. The most I've ever gotten in a row in skywatch was 3- I just don't have the sparrow skills in that area.

*Usually* on Venus, if you start one at Ember caves, complete it, another wolf event will either just be starting or in progress at citadel next door, giving you another 2 pulls at least. I usually averaged 5-6 pulls every 15-20 min.

Then you just hop back over to the caves and repeat. Our group sometimes had them start really fast, like under 10 min fast.

I uh....have a lot of blooms.

Never pick up blue or purple engrams while farming

They'll go to the postmaster anyway, so that guarantees you'll always have room for your green engrams.

And if you do, app-transfer them away

Probably the Wolf Pack events in Skywatch. You'll be swimming in blue engrams, 50% should be weapons, but some of those will decrypt to strange coins so it's not perfect but when you get 1-2 engrams/chest and there's that one chest you can open 5 times..

Plus you'll get glimmer to buy junk weapons to dismantle..

Vanguard dragon playlist will vomit engrams. *NM*

Throw on any greens you've bought or found when turning in bounties to get XP on them, then they give more weapon parts or armor materials when broken down.

I might try farming Ether Chests, honestly

by Monochron, Tuesday, May 26, 2015, 15:24 (3707 days ago) @ MacAddictXIV

You get glimmer drops, and weapons from the chests. Use the glimmer to buy new engrams. Also kill dudes while you're waiting for the events and get green drops from them.
