Thanks for trying... (Destiny)

Thanks to Chewy and Finwe for breaking me into my first Trials outing!

It was .... not the best.

Only got to 4 wins, probably due to my noobness in Elimination mode, but moreover NO ONE got ANYTHING in the way of random drops. Yeah; across 6 or 7 games we saw BUPKISS in the postgame screen. That doesn't seem to be what I've heard of other people's experiences. Is that normal?

I must say, in its favor; ToO Elimination IS a lot more fun than regular Crucible, but that may or may not be solely due to the necessity of communication keeping our team connected.

I don't see the Lighthouse in my near future. Maybe someday, when all the current PvP godlings have moved onto the next shiny thing, but not any time soon. :P

Randomness is clumpy.

But really good effort! Trials is hard. Sometimes you get difficult teams. I think you can do it! Try again later!

I'd say random is random - so 0-7 is 'normal' in the sense that yes - it can happen - like anything can happen when we're talking random.

It's interesting that I'm finding this experience 'new' to people in ToO but I guess it's just because of different playing styles - I'm always a communicative player (or at least a 'receptive to your recon' player - which I've even heard others 'not get') when playing with my teammates.

Bungie may have helped everyone's game by forcing people to learn newer better techniques. Everyone please send Bungie some love.

Dude, you're basing your future 'earnings' on *one* period of time playing a gametype for the first time ever. Really?

Yeah, I get that, it just didn't help the whole first time experience.

Also, getting matched 3 times against teams sporting the 9-0 emblem was ... demoralizing.

Because I never forget I paid about $60 for a game that's given me about 2 weeks of man-hours in gameplay. My return of investment is astronomical. So is yours. So turn that frown upside down. ;-)

Seriously I like the game, I like the people I've met and play with in the game. I like the thrill of victory - and I LIKE the agony of defeat. It's good shit. That's it. The rest (which gun, which armor, what x y z!?!?) I couldn't give a fuck about. OK, a *cursory* fuck, but that's about it.

Now get back in the ring, brother.

My best advice for this, and it can be easier said than done, is to ignore emblems.

Sure, they probably earned it, but it can be easy to psyche yourself out at the start if you let their emblem get to you. Just go in ready to communicate well and win. Also, if you aren't a 34 yet, try to get to one. It makes Trials easier.

Usually, one of my teammates will look at the weapons and classes each enemy is rocking while the game loads. It turns the focus toward preparing for what Super situations may come up and when, or how we want to tackle going at the team as a whole. Maybe try something like that to get set for the game and to distract from what type of emblems they have.

You can kind of get a feel for the dudes though.

By looking at gun choices, emblems, names, grimoire, and armor. I have zero idea how, but I think we've been about 80% accurate in calling out what they're gonna do and who to watch for.

In some cases, gear/ability combos can be a very clear sign of the enemy's gameplan. We played a match last night against a Hunter who was using the Bladedancer subclass, with Necrochasm as his primary weapon. Right away I said "watch out for the bladedancer... he's going to cloak and try to get close". Sure enough, that's exactly what happened, and we were ready.

It actually lead to my highlight of the night. I saw someone on my radar, down the hall and around the corner. I heard a bladedancer's super pop, followed by the "swooshing" sound of him going invisible. I ran up to the corner and tucked myself just behind a little edge protruding out from the wall. I crouched, and waited. A second later, the invisible hunter comes around the corner, runs right past me, and I nailed him in the back with my Fist of Havoc. Felt soooooo good :D

I didn't get any drops across my first 9-10 games in ToO. I ended up getting a couple over the course of our 14 games last night. Ottermack seems to get a new piece of armor every other match lol

I think that proves Bungie really did make it more likely that you get drops if you perform better, knowing Ottermack, haha.

When I play regular crucible, I'm hyper-aggressive. I hit the enemy as hard and fast as I can, over and over. It usually pays off. I'll finish a lot of matches at the top of the scoreboard. But it's risky. I die a lot too. I almost always go positive (usually 1.5-3.0 k/d ratio). So when I jump in to Trials of Osiris, I don't play like myself. I'm extremely careful and conservative.

Not Ottermack.

I can't tell you how many times he and Mez had downed a couple opponents before I had even seen anyone! I'd really love to play some standard crucible with those 2 at some point. I'd love to see how we play together when I'm using my usual mindless suicidal aggression XD
