Any new Gear Worth using? (Destiny)

by Cody Miller @, Music of the Spheres - Never Forgot, Sunday, May 31, 2015, 16:51 (3705 days ago)

Has anybody got a new legendary that outperforms their old go to?

There was a thread on Reddit arguing that because the new perks have tradeoffs instead of being straight buffs, that old gear will always outperform new. There is a little bit of truth to that. I will never find a better fusion rifle than my amazing Purifier VIII.

But I don't think it's all that bad. BTRD-345 is easily the best legendary HMG I've found. Deadshot Luna replaces my B-Line trauma.

Post your good new weapons and rolls.

The Queen's Machine gun from the PoE is a Jolder's Hammer in all but name and ammo count, so anyone that doesn't like IB can have something in the same ballpark.

The Adept weapons could outperform their raid counterparts depending on element as well (Such as a void Scout Rifle, or solar Hand Cannon).

The most important thing though, is gear, and how it looks.

Most gear in HoW looks better than the vanilla destiny gear, and so is worth using for that reason alone.

Deadshot Luna is one of my current favorites. The Trials of Osiris weapons seem pretty strong as well. The Scout Rifle hits like a truck, and the Auto Rifle is fantastic. I took it for a spin in the crucible yesterday and was going toe-to-toe with all but the best thorn/Hawkmoon users. In some situations, it is actually better than a hand cannon (like if you have 2 or 3 enemies in a right space).

I got another surprisingly good auto rifle from a random drop; a Low Down PXIV. It's the low impact/high RoF archetype (which I usually avoid), but mine came with Sureshot IS, Battlerunner, Rifled Barrel (increased range) and Hidden hand (better target acquisition). Makes it amazingly accurate for its archetype.

Another fun new weapon is the Her Mercy hand cannon I got from a PoE drop. It's got Battle Runner, Lightweight (+2 agility) and Outlaw. It's like a Hand Cannon version of Mida Multitool.

If you like dead shot luna, then you'll love the Shadow 701x scout rifle. Same damage class with more stability and a larger mag. Its a much much better rifle.

My other new go to gun, which for me is hands down the best PvP gun I've used, is the Allfate-55 from the vanguard. It is strangers rifle class and with the proper upgrades, (for me stability perks) it wreck. You can two headshot pretty easily. I know other guns are better, (looking at you thorn, TLW) but I am more consistent with my Allfate. I'm gonna get two more and roll them for my other characters I like it that much.

Nothing I regularly use is new except a crucible rocket.

With a minor possible exception of the queen rocket launcher I use for crucible when I have to do RL kills, it's all old shit. They basically didn't change the RL perks with the exception of dumping field scout, but I didn't need that anyway since clown cartridge is what I was going for, and having 1 round gives you more chances for magic rounds to show up.

I use zero of the new machine guns, I use my old ones ascended for field scout. I use no new fusion rifles, the STATS aren't even as good as my light/beware, let alone the perks. My sniper rifles all need surplus and field scout, so those are all old. The new raid auto rifle has the same perks as my field scout vanquisher, but with worse stats, and you can't roll field scout on the non raid ones. Some new scout rifles are pretty good, but I use scouts so little (handcannon + sniper is all the range I need) I end up putting on an ascended VoC anyway. Pulse rifles can be good now. My The Messenger is all right...but I don't use it. I use Red Death if I want a pulse rifle. The old hand cannons you can get with field scout, outlaw, and crowd control? Come on! That's fantastic. New ones meh.

To me, even if all they did was remove field scout, they would have made all their guns inferior, because I use field scout on virtually every single gun I have. On my secondary weapons, every single one has surplus and field scout so I never run out of ammo. On my regularly used heavies, with the exception of Gyllenhaal, every single one has field scout and surplus.

What're my main normal guns? Fatebringer (field scout), Timur's Lash (field scout), Vision of Confluence (field scout), and so on.

Remove field scout, remove Funkmon's love.

(You'd like Shadow97x or whatever that gun is. That is a good scout rifle.)

The Give/Take equation fusion rifle has been working really well for me. The impact is fairly high, not far off my old Trolley Problem. But the stability is what really makes it great - I can land the whole burst on small enemies at what I would consider pulse rifle range. I haven't seen a fusion rifle work so well at range since the old Light/BEWARE.

Judgement is a New Monarchy shotgun I really like. Great impact/range, and it looks like a blunderbuss. I repeat, it looks like a blunderbuss. I rolled mine with Shot Package and Army of One.

I also like the Admonisher Rocket launcher. Most of the stats are pretty meh but the blast radius is huge, and that works well for what I was trying to do with my Hunter's heavy weapons. I reforged a couple of them to have tracking+reload perks.

Some of the new weapons' perks can work well together with the right roll. Her Right Hand is, as far as base stats go, just a wannabe Shadow Price. But I rolled Focused Fire, Rangefinder, and Injection Mold together with a high-zoom scope, and wound up with something that works at MUCH longer range than any other AR I've ever seen. Technically Suros Regime still has a better range stat, but it's limited by its sights.

All that being said, there's no denying some of the old weapons, with the right perks, can achieve things the new ones can't. Just yesterday I brought my old Shadow Price out of the vault. It has Outlaw, Field Scout, and Grenadier. This is a gun I have not used since TDB came out. I took it on patrol mode against low-level Cosmodrome enemies initially and it took me all of 5 seconds to remember why I kept it. Having such a high-impact, stable AR with 42 rounds in the mag gets a lot done between reloads, and then the reloads are super quick. Then I took it to fight one of the "wanted Wolves" groups, and it murdered them pretty good, too. I can't wait to ascend that thing. And my TDYK (which, I recently realized, actually beats Fatebringer on base stats - it's only the Firefly ability that makes Fatebringer what it is).

In general, it does seem a bit tougher to get the "perfect" roll, but you still can. I believe there are perks for stability and range on every gun that have no downsides. Then there's a variety of new perks (Army of One, Icarus, Battlerunner, etc) that add new abilities to guns with no drawbacks. The idea that the new guns will never be as effective as the old ones is almost certainly wrong.

Not having field scout on Machine Guns will keep me from ever sharding some of my Jolder's Hammers.

I've been using High Road Soldier with Firefly and Luck occasionally.

I'm about to make an alt just for Special Ammo Synth though.

Yeah, I have one on Xbox and am loving it. Now I'm wondering how to get one on Playstation since it isn't sold by any of the vendors (at least not that I've seen).

The NL Shadow 701X is a large reason why I've been somewhat disappointed by Dead Orbit's Deadshot Luna SR1 that I was really looking forward to.

I got one last night via the rumble playlist...

by slycrel ⌂, Monday, June 01, 2015, 13:27 (3705 days ago) @ Speedracer513

...my first game. I think the game was trying to have pity on me, as that was my first rumble PvP match ever and I did not do so well! :D I need to reroll it to get some good perks, it definitely looks like a good one.

Note that zero point LOTP seems to be similar, just a little slower, but with more impact. I got one from a drop somewhere and rerolled it to get full auto, improved stability (at the cost of 4 rounds per clip) and crowd control. I would have preferred hidden hand over CC, I may reroll another later to try for that, assuming that's available for scout rifles. The stats are near identical to VoC but mine has more stability and reload. The downside is the clip is small, 13 shots isn't a huge deal for PvP. Anyhow, I finished levelling it last night and have high hopes for it in the crucible. It's a little slower than NL Shadow 710X, but still faster than a badger/A.1F-19x. https://www.bungie.net/en/Legend/Gear/2/4611686018434081936/2305843009217818129

On a related note, I think I'll use rumble as my training grounds for Trials, and get more scientific about it. It's not quite the same, but seems to be a much better training ground than some of the regular playlists. I'm hoping that it will help me better be ready for the trials next weekend.

how does "replenish"work

i've seen some guns with it, but haven't used any yet. It says that the mag refills when a super is activated. Is that my super only, or anyone's super?

In my test, just yours, but it is free ammo from the ether.

Also works if not equipped (like if you have no ammo for shotgun or something and are using primary).

I've gotten a few new weapons with tremendous rolls. Overall though, I still prefer my older weapons (Fatebringer, VoC, Fang of Ir Yut). The newer Machine guns are not worth it to me and the rocket launchers are pretty much all the same anyway. I would like a new max blast radius RL with Tripod and Horse Shoes and Hand Grenades though (my Radegast's Furys are hard to beat though)

the two new ones that stick out for me are the following.

New Final Rest II (DO Fusion Rifle)
Feeding Frenzy
Reinforced Barrel (+Range, -Stability)
RangeFinder

One/One Synesthete Scout Rifle
Rodeo
Hand-Laid Stock (+Stability, -Range)
Third Eye

That scout rifle is a PvP Beast. I'm typically not a fan of scout rifles in PvP but on longer range maps I've been using this. With near maxed stability and third eye I have been able to fire as fast as I can accurately aim and pull the trigger and hit headshots better than I could with MIDA.
