Is the fusion rifle dead in crucible? (Destiny)
by iconicbanana, C2-H5-OH + NAD, Portland, OR, Monday, June 01, 2015, 13:58 (3704 days ago)
Aside from Vex or the Queenbreaker's Bow, neither of which are really fusion rifles in the archetypal sense. Between the reduction in special ammo and the nerf to range, are fusion rifles done? Plan C seems like the exception to me, paired with a good scout rifle; otherwise, I've stopped including them in my loadouts. Does anyone still use them?
Light of the Abyss and Light/Beware are still solid

Not really at range, but the quick charge time keeps them viable for CQC stuff. Plus hipfire = not having to aim.

Yes, I just 365d my Light/Beware for Iron Banner.

Accelerated coils and two ammo perks means I never run out of special ammo.

They are the Auto-rifles of special weapons.

You're dead on regarding the special ammo changes. Also, for all Bungie's talk of nerfing shotguns, they seem just as effective and deadly as ever. In combination with the Shotgun PvE buff, I find myself wondering why I keep as many FRs as I do. The space they fit in the sandbox currently is just too narrow to justify using them.

I might have mentioned this already, but I just sharded all my Fusion rifles with the exception of both Raid FRs, my Plus One, and my new ToO FR. Just seems like there are very few circumstances where they shine.
I've deleted all my everything

With the exception of Plug One, Vanquisher, Swarm and LDR.
Not enough room for non-unique gear any more. Where's that vault space Bungie?

Fusion Files are effective, but only if you have an insane one that has tons of range and stability. They can compete, but only the best of the best. In that sense they are weak overall.

Not if you have a good one

No. My Purifier VIII kills from insane distances. I use it so much according to Destiny Tracker fusion rifles are most of my kills in crucible. I imagine new fusion rifles will have problems though, since all of the perks have tradeoffs and you'll never get anything like the above.
Anything pre HoW with a range buff can be great. Calming, Purifier VII, Perun's Fire, Trolly Problem, etc.

Heh, I have one that's identical to yours, but it's got hip-fire in the first perk slot. I guess I should try it out sometime.

I have been meaning to compile a video… the range is just that insane. Pre charge around a corner and you have a long range shotgun.

Keeping ammo in them seems to be the problem for me. Do you find yourself using them differently now, or did you always use them in a limited, right situation sort of way?

No you definitely run low and have to actively seek out special ammo. Before I just picked it up when I came across it. Now, I've memorized the locations and stop by them at regular intervals.

Damn, you use FR's almost as much as I do.

Not quite as much as I do, but closer than anyone else I've ever checked.
And not the mathematical kind. Cannuckle Head w/ Strangers and watch radar, when they get close or around corners I start pre-charging. Unless I aint prepared or they get lucky it'll melt them. But 2 bursts and you're out and must wander aimlessly looking for green boxes. Its funny I cant do this with any other fusion though, the charge time and sound PI makes is so ingrained that ill usually fire early.
Surprised you have drifted away from it, everything I know I learned from you.
Im really bad at PI

I dont like pie though.
by Up North 65 , Wednesday, June 03, 2015, 01:53 (3703 days ago) @ iconicbanana
Well its usually two but sometimes the action gets a little gummed up with the blood of my enemies and it takes a second or two to fire again. If I'm paying attention I can stop it before it fires all three rounds. Otherwise I'll be looking for ammo boxes real quick like.

I love pie. Screw you, cake preferers.

It's a bummer. I used to run some petty crazy sprees with that thing. But even at the very best of times, when special ammo ran like water, that gun guzzled ammo like a hummer with the a/c cranked. It simply doesn't justify an exotic slot for just two guaranteed kills a game.

Several people have said it, but...

I have to add my agreement that Give/Take Equation is a monster in Crucible. It's so stable you can kill beyond most fusion rifles' range, and I even have gotten a few multi kills with it with a single shot (and witnessed others, like Breitzen get them as well).

How does this thing stack against Plug/One? That's what I still use when I use one.

I'm going to use the pocket infinity purely for nostalgia if I sign on today. Outside of it, I have zero fusion rifles that I ever use.

Really only because I don't have ANY shotguns above attack 270... a ton of high level PVE content pushed me to level all my snipers...

I still rock my Purifier VII in the crucible. My Purifier VII has accelerated coils, spray and play, and a magazine size of 5. Even with the accelerated coils it's still usually a one shot kill for me. If I have enough time for a second shot my opponent is almost always dead unless I miss.
Unfortunately the PI is useless in the crucible because it burns through ammo too fast. I think they should add the ability to start with ammo on respawn to it, then it would be good again. :)
