Am I crazy... (Destiny)
... or didn't there used to be a way for us to buy faction rep? Aside from the commendations swap that was introduced with HoW, I mean. I could've sworn there was once a way to buy faction rep by spending marks or materials or something.

I think it was originally that you could spend materials to buy marks, not rep?

I think you are indeed crazy

For the first week or two in September you could turn planetary materials into vanguard/crucible marks; but I don't recall there ever being a way to "buy" faction rep.

Am I crazy...
You're probably thinking of Cryptarch rep - it is possible to rank that up by buying things from him, although it's a very small gain. But no such luck with the factions or Vanguard/Crucible.

Materials for rep
It used to be you could turn in materials for a small amount of rep. This could be converted by wearing a faction item, otherwise it was vanguard/crucible. They removed it when you could buy materials for marks, I guess to avoid using marks to buy materials to buy rep.

Yes, you absolutely could.
This changed when Bungie rolled out the "You can buy planetary materials for marks" option. Prior to this change, there was an option to turn in 50 planetary materials for 250 glimmer, 25 reputation, 5 marks, and some experience.

Am I crazy...
Oh, right, that was it. They got rid of that at some point in favor of buying mats using marks.
It was a crap return, anyway. I think you had to spend 50 planetary mats to get like 5 or 10 marks. And at the time, obtaining 50 planetary mats took so long you could have gained way more marks by just playing.

That's what I was trying to remember. Knew the marks part, forgot the rep part.

YES! Thank you! I'm not completely crazy ;)
I was just wondering because I'm full up on marks and drowning in materials with no constructive way to use them.
Thanks for the reminder!

25 rep, 5 marks.

Excuse me, but that's isn't proof...
...that you aren't crazy.
It is however proof that the currency exchange in question did exist at one point in time :)

Point granted ;)
