it's worse now that the blades of crota are no longer on patrol. The only way to get one is to kill a blade and the only one that spawns now is the one within the grotto. To try for it you will have to repeatedly load the mission and fight or sparrow your way to the lone blade and reset if you fail to get it.

If you are dedicated you can more consistently and quickly spawn and kill the blade then you could trying to find them on patrol (makes it real easy to do the eris bounty) but it is really monotonous and will still likely take you a really long time before the weapon drops.
