I got this as a drop in Iron Banner. I keep hearing it's a really good rocket launcher. How so? What am I missing? Good rolls? Give me some ideas here!

Current perks are Army of One and Grenades and Horseshoes. But one rocket in the mag is pretty lame compared to Truth's three or other legendary's two.

It's about blast radius and speed.

by Funkmon @, Wednesday, June 03, 2015, 17:32 (3703 days ago) @ Cody Miller

If you use an exotic primary, this can be a great thing to use instead of swapping guns for heavy ammo to get truth.

Go for grenades and horseshoes, a middle perk to max blast radius or speed if you need it, reload if you don't, and the first should be clown cartridge (free rockets) or tripod (reload not necessary).

With a large blast radius, you can kill people far away. That's why it is good.

The features that make this rocket launcher great are its near-maxed Velocity and Blast Radius. Only having one rocket per reload means you can get the most out of Clown Cartridge (potentially 3 extra rockets per heavy drop.)

Ideal Roll: Clown cartridge, Grenades and Horseshoes, and Javelin in the middle column. I got Spray and play instead of Clown cartridge, and still dominate with it.

Ah, I remember you telling me about the potential to clown cartridge the other day. That sounds very good.

The Fear (from FWC) has a 2-rocket tube and also has near max velocity and blast radius. Using that with Grenades and Horseshoes as well as Army of One is a great Legendary launcher.

I have one that's been my go-to rocket launcher on my titan since I got it. (A long time ago.)
I've got Tracking and Third Eye as the perks, with Field Scout giving me a second shot in the mag. Third Eye is pretty cool; on maps with long sightlines I can stay zoomed in and not worry about being taken out from behind. And the huge blast radius means I get a lot of kills, even if my shot isn't perfect. ;)

How does the tracking work for you? I am unsure if that's better than proximity detonation. With the fast velocity, would tracking tend to miss quick moving targets?

Tracking is hit-or-miss (literally). RF's tracking is much, much less than Truth's - but it's still enough that if someone ducks into a cave, the tracking can cause the rocket to slam into the rock instead of heading to the entrance. On the other hand, it's not enough that someone moving really fast can't evade it (and it needs a lock to actually kick in, which takes longer than I usually have). Every once in a while it's beautiful - a long-distance rocket will curve around a pillar and take out my target who just ducked behind cover - but mostly, I use it as a straight-on RL, and hope I don't get hosed by geometry. :)

Yeah, the stock FWC rocket launcher The Fear has made me realize how great proximity detonation is. Usually any rocket launcher with tracking ends up tracking into a wall. With The Fear I just fire next to the corner they ran around and get the kill a lot more often.

I've pretty much given up on my tracking rocket launchers. Watching a rocket fired straight on decide to curve away from a target as he moves was just too much. The proximity detonation perk is just kinda amazing. As long as you get the rocket close you pretty much get the kill.

My best launcher right now is a rerolled New Monarchy one that has tripod. It doesn't really hold much ammo, just three shots, but it never needs to be reloaded either.

I have a one way ticket with spray and play, horseshoes, and field scout (2 shots per reload), and it is choice. If you still have one with decent perks, it's about the same as the fear stat wise.

For straight PVP, I'm starting to dislike tracking. I rerolled my RF a couple dozen times to get Tracking and Field Scount, and am thinking I'm going to reroll it again for Proximity Detonation.

Field Scout (or Tripod) is an absolute must -- the reload is so slow on those having to reload after every shit causes more problems than it solves.

I am a huge proponent of this RL. My favorite setup so far is this:

- Horse Shoes and Hand Grenades
- Field Scout
- Spray and Play

I typically will run this with some heavy ammo boots so I will have 4 rockets each round.

Being able to "snipe" people mid air and around corners is amazingly fun. I'm sure there are some other RLs that will be just as fun now that we can reroll everything under the sun.

Interesting - I'd have to say my biggest complaint about Radegast's Fury is that when I'm in the air, there's a noticeable delay before I'm allowed to fire. (The Unfriendly Giant I used almost exclusively before I got this didn't have that issue, at all, and it doesn't happen when I'm on the ground with RF.)

It's gotten me killed a LOT of times. :(

Is this a class thing? (Is it happening to me because I'm a Titan?)

Titans and warlocks both have to cancel their double jumps to fire. Hunters have one-press jump-bursts, so they can fire more quickly.

I meant more along the lines of shooting someone who is mid air because of the horse shoes perk.

But I mainly play as a hunter now so shooting rockets in the air is pretty easy

If you use triple jump for Hunters, there's a delay after the third jump.

I... I did not know this. How do you cancel your double-jump? (I must not have ever double-jumped when I had Unfriendly Giant, because I really don't remember this ever happening.)

If it's as simple as cancelling something, I could go back to not dying when I jump and fire! :)

I think firing while in the middle of Glide will first cancel the jump, then perform the fire. I say that because I am fairly sure I have fired without pressing A again in the air. So likely, pressing A and then pulling the trigger will take the same time overall (or more) than just pulling the trigger.

ADS will also cancel the jump.
