Skolas and Solar (Destiny)

So I can confirm that 3 Gjallarhorns are basically required.

If Skolas doesnt incinerate you with that cannon, the captains will one shot you before you know they're even nearby. Doing the carousel of pain just wasn't working. Only two gjallarhorns don't put out enough damage to cause the landslide that fries him.

If you got three, though, he burns like paper.

After the chore that was a void burn run, I'm not sure I like the Skolas encounter. It just seems arbitarily punishing at times, and the boss is a sponge even with an elemental burn. It probably doesn't help that Solar seems to have the real outstanding power weapons. That isn't to say he's impossible, but the fight just seems such a pain otherwise I'd rather not bother without solar.

I'm just waiting for a non-elemental modifier to see what the "true" experience is to be like. Void was somewhat like that since there wasn't anything to vaporize us instantly, but was tough anyway. Imagine it being tougher...

I feel like Void exposed a problem

I quite enjoyed the Void Burn carousel of death, because I actually got to play the encounter properly instead of the Gjallarhorn Method, but it was still pretty painful. Even without enemies insta-vaporising us, it felt like we needed that burn. Even the last little sliver of his health took a good 15 seconds of sustained Void LMG fire.

Not a problem so long as there's always some burn or other, but if it's ever no-burn, that fight is gonna be tiresome.
