Best re-roll ever? (Destiny)
by CruelLEGACEY , Toronto, Friday, June 12, 2015, 20:08 (3691 days ago)
After played a few Dragon strikes with Slycrel a couple nights ago, I went back to the reef and found a legendary engram waiting at the postmaster. I took it to the Cryptarch and received the New Monarchy heavy machine gun: the Pacifier X.
The one I got had a crappy perk roll, but I looked at the base stats and thought "with the right perks, this thing could be pretty good".
So I took it to the tower with the intention of re-rolling a few times to see if I could get a decent combo.
Very first re-roll, I land this baby:
Slot 1: Smart Drift Control or Soft Ballistics (both increase stability)
Slot 2: Counterbalance (significant boost to stability)
Slot 3: High Caliber Rounds (More impact, less stability) or Smallbore (more range and stability)
Slot 4: Rangefinder (more range while ADS)
Basically, this thing has the rate of fire of an auto rifle with the stability and range of a scout rifle and the impact of a hand cannon. I can't wait to get it upgraded and take it into the crucible :D
What about everyone else? What are some of the best/luckiest re-rolls you've had?
That gun is nice

I have had one for a while, and it is pretty good. With those rolls it should be great.

Nice gun :)
I may have mentioned my Shadow Price once or twice around here: Red-Dot ORS1 sight (my personal favorite sight for ARs, stability be damnned), Field Scout, Reactive Reload, and Outlaw.
I also have a "The Fear" with Grenades and Horsehoes, Army of One, and something that increases both blast radius and velocity to near maximum.
Timur's Lash with Field Scout, Zen Moment, and Feeding Frenzy.
The Culling with Clown Cartridge, Perfect Balance, Ambush 25 scope (i will never snipe with anything else unless it's an exotic), and Outlaw... It's not as good as Praedtih's Revenge, but it's damn close, and it's arc damage whereas PR will always be void.
Matador 64 with Crowd Control and Luck in the Chamber (as well as fitted stock and CQB ballistics). This just dropped for me yesterday and it's replaced my Secret Handshake even before I've unlocked the perks. BEASTLY shotgun.

It asks so little, and it offers so much.

Not a new gun, but....

These are two of the last OG Destiny weapons I have kept, and I'm struggling with "Sophie's Choice" here trying to decide which MG to ascend with my 1 remaining Etheric Light: Zombie Apocalypse or The Swarm;
-
I mean, your roll looks pretty nice, but I've yet to personally see anything that holds a candle to these two. ;)

Woo! Go Dragon Strikes! ;)

Best re-roll ever?
by stabbim , Des Moines, IA, USA, Saturday, June 13, 2015, 06:52 (3691 days ago) @ CruelLEGACEY
What about everyone else? What are some of the best/luckiest re-rolls you've had?
- I re-rolled several legendary RLs for my Titan after HoW came out. Managed to get 3 of them with tripod. 2 have cluster bombs, the 3rd has surplus. Having tripod sort of makes up for the lack of raid boots on that character since it takes total capacity up to 6.
- LDR 5001 with field scout. The super-high impact + field scout means that, in PvE, I can put a lot of damage into a target before running out.
- Any Deviant Gravity roll. Still the best machine gun I've ever picked up.
- Two to the Morgue with Shot Package, Hammer Forged, and Luck in the Chamber.
- Shadow Price with Feeding Frenzy, Field Scout, and Grenadier. In its day, this was easily the best legendary AR I have ever seen. Can't wait to ascend it.
- Badger CCL with Focus Lens FLA5, Final Round, High Caliber Rounds, and Firefly. I use MIDA Multi-Tool a lot on my hunter, but Badger is what I switch to when I need to work at extreme range. The target acquisition on that FLA5 scope is insane - it's difficult to NOT get headshots. The high impact and range combined with that scope make it the perfect counterpoint to the low-impact, fast-firing, medium-range MIDA.
- Hopscotch Pilgrim with the same FLA5 scope, Reactive Reload, Outlaw, and Armor Piercing Rounds. This thing is good for pretty much the same reasons as Badger, just in pulse rifle form - high impact (higher even than Red Death) and range. It's also oddly stable for such a powerful pulse rifle. That might just be the scope.
- Wolves' Bane with any reload perk. I love the slow-firing, heavy-hitting machine guns, and Wolves' Bane fits the bill. Its weakness is reload speed, though, so I reforged mine until I got Spray and Play.
- Judgement VI with Army of One, Crowd Control, and High Caliber Rounds. This is already a hard-hitting shotgun, but Crowd Control and High Caliber Rounds really enhance it. And make Army of One more likely to trigger. :)
- TDYK. The vendor version, with Zen Moment, Send It, and Crowd Control. I think the Truesight IS sights (which are default on the vendor roll) are also a big key to this one. I have mine ascended now, and used it today on the daily story mission which had Small Arms enabled. Holy crap:

Please excuse my sub-par aim in those videos. I was almost going to play it again and grab clips that make me look better, but I think those misses actually help demonstrate why a hand cannon with 12 shots is preferable to one with 5 or 6. You can miss fairly frequently and still clear a room plenty quick.
What you can't see in these videos is the absurd range TDYK works at (despite the not-insignificant nerf to HC range that has occurred since this thing was new). Which is partly due to the range stat and partly due to the sights. Back in the day before the HC range nerf, there was a running joke that TDYK was the best scout rifle in the game. :P

Did you 3-shot a Captain?
Wait, did you 5-shot a Captain Major?!

Yup. Small Arms was on, but still.

Wait, did you 5-shot a Captain Major?!
Fatebringer does that, too, when small arms boost is on.

Yeah, the stats are virtually identical on both guns. The only major differences other than arc damage are that TDYK has range advantage (assuming Send It is on) and Fatebringer has Firefly.

Fatebringer ONE SHOTS a captain with small arms and arc burn on :-)

Yeah, that nightfall a week or two ago was hilarious.

VoC was kicking some serious ass then too

5-shot-ing Captain Majors with the wrong elemental damage feels like cheating.

Good roll = whatever fits best to your play style (either by enhancing something you're already good at, or by supplementing something you aren't so good at)
Bad roll = perks that do *you* no good
;)

What about everyone else? What are some of the best/luckiest re-rolls you've had?
Let's start with the first Legendary I ever got (and from a drop, no less)...
- Truesight IS
- Outlaw
- Field Scout, Single Point Sling, Explosive Rounds
- Mulligan
Great setup for Crucible and PvE. Not a re-roll, I know, but a great Random Roll.
- Accurized Ballistics
- Rodeo
- Field Scout
- Surplus
You want ammo? You got ammo. This is a ridiculously devastating weapon. Accurized Ballistics and Rodeo make it so that this weapon is essentially a heavy Scout Rifle. The Machine Gun headshot bounty was never a problem for me with this gun.
Field Scout and Surplus? I've had Crucible games where I still have ammo by the time the next Heavy rolls around. Three bullets to kill, 50 in the belt, and Half of a full reload waiting? Surprised that I haven't been banned for blatant cheating. Check the first half of this video:
Stopping a Titan's Fist? So satisfyin'... Also, why do I get the 15-kill Merciless before I get the 10-kill Iron Wrath bounty? Bungle?
Jolder's Hammer:
- Smart Drift Control
- Counterbalance
- Hammer Forged
- Surplus
Look at the stats on that; they speak for themselves. A fully-automatic sniper rifle is what this is. And I have brought down snipers with it before they could do a thing. Almost zero recoil, massive range, and ammo in reserve... I remember once that I saw a guy fire a rocket at me on Rusted Lands, and I was able to target him and bring him down before the rocket got to me...
- Aggressive Ballistics
- Return to Sender
- Hammer Forged
- Rangefinder
They don't make them like this anymore... For a reason. Check the above video (3:30 onwards) to see the kind of range and damage that this thing has. Few things escape from it. And in case you don't think Return To Sender is a worthwhile perk, check this recent video, where my first six shotgun kills consume zero ammo:
Special ammo nerf? I can manage.
Sometimes I think I know how to play destiny. Then I watch videos like that. Amazing man. The weapons help, but man... just amazing.

Heh, thanks. If only I were able to play like that all the time.
