Leveled up my Hunter, so why don't I think I can do anything (Destiny)

I started up my third character, a hunter, a couple months ago and been working on her off and on ever since. I have yet to unlock Mars, but last night I finally was able to get enough completed bounties to XP her to level 20 and instantly jump to 31 from all the legendary/exotic armors I've collected randomly from other characters. Great. Awesome. Lots of endgame content unlocked. So why do I feel like I can't do anything with her yet? Maybe it's that new car/guardian smell? Might also be because I'm still only 2/3rds through the first skill tree for the hunter, or the fact I'm only part through the original story--let alone any of the dlc--so some stuff is still locked. I think also the fact that most of my armor is all pre HoW stuff and thus it all needs XP and lots of materials to upgrade and non of the perks are unlocked is still pretty daunting too. All stuff I can't pre-upgrade with my other characters, Just have to play more with my hunter.

At least I'm now able to pull all my old weapons out of the vault where I was sorely needing the space. Some of these weapons though I remember being more---something. When did Ghaelions demise get to be so slow firing? Maybe I just need to get used to them again

Well at least now I have a third chance to complete endgame activities even if I'm not sure my hunter is up to a nightfall yet. Having to opt out of stuff because I had already done it is a drag so the extra chance should be nice.

When I first started playing with my hunter class, it felt very weak. Seemed like I would get killed too easily. I maxed out my hunter on agility and then recovery, so maybe this is part of the issue. But after a while of playing, it might be my fav class. Invis Hunters are great for PvE content. You can hide and revive teammates easily and if you use the Don't Touch Me gloves, you can escape most melees attacks to fight another day.

Hunters really shine in the Cruc though. I love my GG and it's easy to get triple downs with it. My only slayer medal (5 kills) and my only 15 kill streak are with my hunter. Give it some time, and you may be surprised.

I think the thing with Hunters is that they're a bit less "in your face" with their abilities than the other classes. Many of their unique perks (Gunslinger's Trance, Throwing Knife, Blade Strike, etc) requier a certain amount of finess to use effectively, but they can be absolutely deadly once you master them.

Hunter sucks until you understand it.

The gunslinger perks make every gun in the game good, plus give you an extra way to damage guys if your mag runs out. But, you have to be used to it.

Bladedancer has the biggest perk changes to your game, providing invisibility and stuff.

For a titan and warlock, you play and the perks add to it. For a hunter, you have to play the perks.

So in short, yes, your hunter blows. Max out both classes and you'll find out how good they are.

Hunter sucks.

I feel like this is probably part of it. Hit some bounties, and get that finished, plus the armor perks, and I'm sure you'll be in better shape.

I know personally, I play each of the classes (even each of the subclasses) very differently. You probably just haven't found the groove yet.

Played a weekly heroic. First tentative steps on my way.

Some people are saying you can get engrams for older gear by playing them. I haven't tried this yet so I don't know how true it is, but it's worth trying if you want some older gear.

I've gotten some Crota "era" vanguard weapons, but nothing earlier than that.

I've not payed too much attention to the armors, but I would assume it's also possible.

Strike playlists are the only way that I've come across the PS4 exclusive non-exotic content. Definitely has an altered pool, to some capacity.

Only slightly related, but if you play through the Dark Below story missions for the first time on new characters, you can get TDB legendaries out of the rewarded engrams from them. I just did them and got a Solar Secret handshake + LDR on Saturday.

Seriously, HoW feels to me like both level 34 required and 3 friends in a party required for pretty much all of the new activities. ToO, level 32, 34, and 35 PoE are all "you must have 2 friends" and with the exception of level 32 PoE, they're also "you must be level 34" activities. Because the other things to do in HoW are almost exactly the same things you did in CE and OG Destiny, those things don't feel new and they're all things you've been able to do for a long, long time (crucible, patrol mode, strike playlists).
