These are from harborfreight and probably pretty cheap. They'll help you see and hold the board while you solder.

it's still a chore though. ;-)

Actually, the shape of the controller doesn't make it very easy to use with those type of clamp helpers… but I do have the giant magnifiers and the strong lighting.
