I can't tell if I like the new Taken enemy concept or not (Destiny)

On the one hand, it feels sort of like a cheap (though oft used) dynamic to reuse old models. It's also moderately cheesy from a sci-fi sense in that it feels like zombies.

On the other hand, we're talking about a power that can convert a vex. what the ever living @#$% are we up against. Not only that, it's not a power that we're familiar with. It's not a Vex power, it's not a fallen or Traveler power. In fact in the opening scene the Cabal of all races are running from it.

I think I like it because it really opens Destiny up in a fantasy way akin to the world of Tolkien. In that world there were powers that did not have sides, whose strengths and power were not understood, and rarely shown. But they existed, and you could bump into them.

Here we are in what is feeling more and more like our corner of the universe. I started playing Destiny thinking that, because of the traveler and Darkness that WE were the center of the universe. Yet, we're actually just the playground for the song of Oryx? And when we send him back to the abyss Daddy somes in, bitch slaps the cabal, and decides to take revenge on the Guardians directly by subverting the Vex like it aint no thang?

As long as Bungie plays this out (and given the Grimoire, I have hope they can) this could turn into a really REALLY great universe given a few more years.

Final thought:
We as Guardians have had powers that we don't understand since the beginning. It's about time we faced an enemy with powers we don't understand.
